Summary

Marvel Rivalsis a bit of a mess at the moment. You have complaints aboutoverpowered, immortal characters such as Iron Fist and Captain America, supports getting bullied by fifty different dive players, and the ranked system that gives you points based on individual performance is extremely flawed and gives DPS an unfair boost.

In an attempt to inject a bit of positivity into the game,NetEase has introduced a new Galacta’s Gift event, which you can participate in t earn free rewards and a Costume Coin. It’s a pretty neat little event, but all anyone can talk about at the moment are the new Chrono Shield Cards, which are newly introduced consumable items that will stop you from losing points in ranked mode.

Marvel Rivals Fans Think Chrono Shield Cards Will Cause “Server-Wide Rank Inflation”

Almost instantly, Marvel Rivals fanstook to social mediato really drive homehow much of a horrible idea this is, claiming that the cards will almost certainly cause “server-wide rank inflation”, a problem that Marvel Rivals fans have been dealing with for a while. It’s also been pointed out that, while you can earn 8 cards from the Galacta’s Gift event, the limit you can have is 20, meaning there will be ways to get more in the future.

That opens up the door to NetEase making Chrono Shield Cards paid items down the line, and while it has assured fans that this won’t be the case- and that they can only be used at Gold ranks and below - you never know what could happen one or two years down the line.

Even then, there are still concerns about these cards inflating the lower ranks even further, as there’s already a Chrono Shield system in place down there too. Throw these new cards on top, and it could be extremely easy to get close to a rank up, spam a bunch of Chrono Shield Cards, and then get into a rank that you arguably shouldn’t be in, deteriorating matches for those in higher ranks.

There are also worries that the system is easy to abuse, as someone could accumulate 20 Chrono Shield Cards and throw 20 games in a row with no repercussions, apart from maybe a light ban for a week or two. It just seems like a pretty bad idea overall, and something that NetEase should probably reconsider if it wants its competitive audience to stick around. I’ve hearda little game called Overwatch 2 is doing pretty well right now.
