In comic books, death is rarely the end. While theMCUhas made death a more permanent status than manyMarvelcomics, there are still notable exceptions to the rule. Vision returned as White Vision, time travel brought Gamora back, and Loki returned after dying in Endgame thanks to the impact of the branching timelines that movie created. However, if Scarlet Witch is to come back, it seems like she will need a similar loophole.

Scarlet Witch dies in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, except… does she? We see Wanda crush herself and the Darkhold under Mount Wundagore, sacrificing herself and all of her variants after seeing the carnage she has unleashed upon the world. She only wanted to keep her children safe, and discovered the best way to do that was to remove herself and all other Scarlet Witches from the equation.

However, a new MCU canon comic book seemed to tease that the Scarlet Witch we know from the MCU’s 616 universe had survived, only to confirm she had indeed perished. Still, it leaves the door open to more Wanda in the MCU in the future.

Scarlet Witch Can Return To The MCU After This Comic Book

As spotted by Screen Rant, TVA #5, written by Katharyn Blair and with art by Pere Pérez, sees Ghost-Spider free a variant of Scarlet Witch from the TVA’s back rooms. Her costume, as you can see below, looks extremely like the MCU’s design, even though this would have taken place after her death. However, the villain Nightmare then appears and informs Gwen that the TVA had found a timeline where the Scarlet Witch’s fate had ended differently. Now, Nightmare wants to find her.

This means a few things. Firstly, that the Wanda we know, that we met in Age of Ultron, saw fight in Infinity War and Endgame, and watched experience her trauma in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is officially dead. Secondly, we know that at least one Scarlet Witch survived, which opens the door to her return - though how much her story differs from the Wanda we know is anyone’s guess.

It adds some other depth to the MCU too, though we may not see it all pay off. Nightmare is now confirmed to at least be able to see into, reach, and communicate with the MCU, even if it may be a step too far to say he’s officially in the MCU itself now. It also similiarly confirms that the Nightmare World and the Dream Dimension connect to the MCU, though again we might not actually see anything else come of that.

As for the logistics of it all,Elizabeth Olsen has said before she would be keen to return to the MCUif that became a possibility. The factRobert Downey Jnr is back as a completely different character(he’s Doom, rather than Iron Man) also suggests Marvel is clinging to the past even as it embraces thefuture with new stars like the Fantastic Four.Deadpool & Wolverine was also a nostalgia festwith several cameos of superheroes gone by, again linked through the TVA, so don’t expect the MCU to travel in a straight line from here on out.
