Summary

Mario Kart Worldis only a few days old, but players have already been busy searching every inch of its vast open world looking for easter eggs and hidden details. We may already have a frontrunner for the best easter egg in the game, just four days on from its launch, asNintendohas hidden free roam’s mirror mode behind aSuper Mario 64homage.

Mirror mode is aMario Kartstaple, and it allows you to race around tracks as if they were reflected in a mirror. Not only has mirror mode returned for Mario Kart World, but even its open world can be flipped so it feels like you’re driving around inside of its reflection.

It’s unclear who exactly made the discovery first, butStealth40k’s video demonstrating how to drive into World’s mirrored free roam mode has been getting all of the attention. The clip shows the player driving right through the stained glass Princess Peach window in the Peach’s Stadium area of Mario Kart World.

I’m Assuming Super Mario 64 Fans Have Already Tried To Drive Through The Peach Window

There’s A Lot You Need To Do Before The Game Will Let You Pass Through It

The way in which they pass through the window is an homage to Super Mario 64. To access the iconic Nintendo platformer’s levels, you needed to leap into paintings, as well as an identical stained glass Princess Peach window. A very cool way to include something so memorable from what many consider to be the best Mario game ever, but before you try to replicate it, there’s a caveat, and it’s a big one.

Read through the replies to the post above showcasing the discovery, and you’ll notice that others haven’t been able to find their way into Mario Kart World’s mirror dimension. Players have just been bouncing off the Peach window, and that’s because those players haven’t unlocked the game’s standard mirror mode.

Once you have unlocked Mirror Mode, you should be able to drive through the window and into the open world’s mirror mode. There are mixed messages at this early stage regarding how exactly you unlock mirror mode in Mario Kart World. While the consensus appears to be completing every Grand Prix and Knockout Tournament on 150cc, it also seems like you need to have completed a certain number of tasks in the open world, too, before getting the notification that mirror mode has been unlocked.

There’s alsoa new version of Rainbow Road waiting to be unlocked, and it might be the best Rainbow Road the series has ever seen.

While completing P button missions and collecting Peach medallions appears to be the way to go, how many of each you need to unlock mirror mode remains unclear. My advice would be to finish every Grand Prix and Knockout Tour in 150cc - where you place in each doesn’t seem to matter - and then start completing missions and finding medallions until mirror mode becomes available.
