Summary

TheNintendo Switch 2launched last week, and since it was the system’s one big first-party launch game, a lot of people will have been playing a lot ofMario Kart Worldover the past few days. Some of you have already rolled credits, discovering that they don’t make any mention of Shigeru Miyamoto.

Stealth40kshared the discovery that Miyamoto, who not only created Mario but also various other residents of the Mushroom Kingdom, as well asDonkey Kong, is nowhere to be found in the Mario Kart World credits. The legendary developer, who has been withNintendo, creating characters and games, for every single one of its consoles, from theNESto the Switch 2, isn’t even listed under the special thanks section.

Miyamoto isn’t as involved in developing Nintendo’s first-party games as he used to be, taking a step back not only because of his age, but to aid Universal in its work with Nintendo on movies and theme parks. It’s also not the first time Miyamoto has been missing from aMario Kartgame’s credits. The video game icon was also omitted from the credits of the series' mobile spinoff,Mario Kart Tour.

Despite Creating Mario, Miyamoto Is Missing From The Credits Of Mario Kart World

Cause For Concern, Or Just Nintendo Doing Nintendo Things?

Leaving Miyamoto out of the credits for Mario Kart World, however, is a significant step up, and it has fans feeling a lot of different ways. While some have pointed out that Miyamoto likely didn’t play a role in the development of Mario Kart World, since he helped create so many of the characters on its roster, others believe he should be mentioned in the credtis - the special thanks section, at the very least - in World and every other Mario game to come after it.

There’s a chance that Miyamoto himself requested that he not be included in the credits for Mario Kart World. More and more evidence continues to surface suggesting we are truly entering a new era of Nintendo, one unlike anything we have seen before. It was revealed when World launched last week thatthe actor who voiced Princess Peach for the past two decades was replacedfor the new game.

Peach actor Samantha Kelly wasn’t told she had been recast in World until the game was about to be released.

Nintendo also replaced Charles Martinet, previously the only voice of Mario, starting withSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. Development-wise, with Nintendo’s core team still the same one that worked on the NES and the originalSuper Mario Bros, this day was always going to come eventually. However, to have no mention of Miyamoto in World’s credits whatsoever, even if he demanded it, is a little odd. Then again, a little odd is still what Nintendo does best.
