Nintendowas already facing backlash overMario Kart World’s $80 price point, but things only got worse after launch. While the game looks good and is fun to play thanks to all the new features, last month’s controversial update sawa flurry of bad reviews coming inbecause itchanged the traditional three-lap formula.

It’s still unclear if Nintendo will be changing things back to the way they were, as most players aren’t fans of this new format. However, it seems that the game has a hidden feature which many players still don’t know about. Not only can you warp to ongoing races in the game, but you can also view their ghosts racing in real-time.

Mario Kart World Has Adopted A Feature Right Out Of Dark Souls

Ghost racers aren’t a new thing in games. Plenty of racing games feature these translucent avatars to show previous record holders or other players in the game’s shared world. However, this has never been done in any Mario Kart game before, and the game doesn’t even inform you that you may fast travel to tracks where races are ongoing.

As showcased byTailorCandid2512, if there’s a race going on, you may not only warp to it via the map, but you’ll also be able to see their ghostly avatars in real time. Getting too close to them will even prompt a speech bubble saying “I’m in a race'. It seems not many player knew that you could warp to different tracks or even see the ongoing race.

“Massive feature Nintendo don’t care if anyone knows about for some reason,” said one comment. “Mario Kart World Welcome Tour coming soon for $40,” joked a reply. “This is nuts. they should do this by default because I never woulda known without this video,” said another player.

Another player theorised that “It seems to me they were planning on free roam being the primary way of interacting with the game, but at some point someone in corporate was worried about alienating players, so they cordoned it off as a secondary game mode after a crazy amount of free roam content had been created.” Perhaps Nintendo initially took inspiration from the Forza Horizon series.
