Bungieis making big changes toMarathonfollowing its recent butindefinite delay of the game’s release. Many are speculating that the game will be cancelled eventually, with some swearingit’s going to be the next Concord. New leaks shared on Twitter today suggest that Bungie hasn’t given up and is listening to feedback.
There’s been no end of controversy around Marathon. Last month, an artistnamed 4nt1r34lmadeclaims of her artwork being stolenand used in areas during the closed alpha test.
Following that, the game was a no-show duringPlayStation’s State of Play event, leading many to, correctly, assumethat the game would not be making the original release date in September. With no new date announced, many feared the game was on its way to being canceled completely.
No News Is Good News Unless It’s Leaked News
That’s How The Saying Goes, Right?
As pointed out by Forbes, a bunch of new info from the current closed (and NDA’d) alpha test on Twitter, mainly from user itsrocksiza, including now-removed images at Bungie’s request. While the user mentioned they are not under the NDA, and they did remove the images as a courtesy, they did provide a lot of information on ongoing improvements to the game.
I’ve seen the leaked images (and you may, too, if you know where to look), and they look like a great step in the right direction. Hopefully Bungie can deliver on their promise to shift the visual direction to a darker tone, though much more improvement is needed to match the quality and fidelity we’ve come to expect from them.
Marathon currently has no release date, but the team insists that it’s still slated for a 2025 launch. We’ll see about that one.
