The highly anticipated Sonic the HedgehogMagic: The GatheringSecret Lair is now up for grabs, and scalpers have already listed bundles for double the price.
Yesterday, Wizards of the Coast informed fans thatthere would be a purchase limit on the Sonic the Hedgehog Secret Lair dropthat went live today, and unlike the past drops that sold out within an hour (looking at you, Final FantasyUniverses Beyond)Sonic’s MTG drop has been available for purchase in a full capacity far longer after being on the market.
However, even with the limitations on quantity in play, buyers have gone fast from the tab that held their spot in line on the Secret Lair website to their eBay accounts, in a rush to be the first to list the products on the resale website.
Scalpers Are Already Reselling Sonic The Hedgehog Secret Lair Sets
The drops haven’t even sold out yet on the Magic: The Gathering website
As of the time of this article going live, the Secret Lair website still lists “Low Stock” on the Sonic MTG drop, but that hasn’t stopped some from listing sets for well above the MSRP. OneeBay UK postfrom a user lists the entire Sonic MTG foils bundle with the information “ORDER CONFIRMED” in the title, and it’s currently listed for nearly three times more than the MSRP pricing on the Secret Lair website.
Other listings are not much better, with all of the different bundles going for inflated prices on eBay. This is inevitable when Secret Lair drops are not made to order, as scalpers thrive on limited availability, even if limits are put in place on how much each customer can purchase.
It’s worth mentioning that while the scalping continues on highly sought Secret Lair drops, this time around the line-queue didn’t break (as was the case with Final Fantasy and Monty Python and the Holy Grail), and bundles didn’t sell out within an hour before the drop. While Secret Lair was notably improved this time, it’s still a bad time for fans still waiting in line to check eBay and see what they’ll have to pay if items sell out before being given a chance to secure the drop for a fair price. And of course, once stocks are gone, these resellers will be your only route to buy them online for a while. So, we’re improving in some areas, but scalpers will always try their luck.
