Magic: The Gathering’s Final Fantasy set is itsbest-selling one, and it’s not surprising to see why. The collection lets us relive some of the series' most iconic moments, likesuplexing a train in FF6,fighting a beast with nearly unlimited health in Final Fantasy 15, and even telling uswho Cloud’s canon Gold Saucer date was in FF7.
However, it seems that the crossover isn’t just great by itself, it’s also increasing the value of some older cards as well. For instance, Halvar, God of Battle from 2021’s Kaldheim wasn’t the most valuable card when it first debuted, but with the launch of the Final Fantasy crossover, its value has shot up. It seems this card has got a revival thanks to how seamlessly it works with many Final Fantasy cards
Halvar, God Of Battle’s Value Has Increased Nearly Four Times
Before the launch of the crossover, Halvar, God of Battle’s value was languishing at €6.10 onCardMarket. However, it eventually shot up during the launch of Final Fantasy, and now sits at €24.89, almost four times higher than its lowest point. As for why this has happened, it’s because the card works well with decks that rely on Equipment, of which there are a lot in Final Fantasy.
The card’s value is now at an all-time high, thanks to a number of cards in Final Fantasy that use Equipment. Cloud, Midgar Mercenary has quickly become one of the best Voltron commanders, while the Job Select mechanic cards like Red Mage’s Rapier, Black Mage’s Rod, and Machinist’s Arsenal have all seen play, and all benefit from having Halvar, God of Battle in the deck to give them double strike.
Speaking of value, it seems some cards from MTG’s Final Fantasy crossover are going for five figure amounts among collectors. The golden foil version of the Travelling Chocobo card, of which there are only 77 printed, has beenresold by someone for around $40,000. The seller initially put it up for $200,000, but no one was interested. Too bad Post Malone isn’t a Final Fantasy fan, as he paid a staggering$2.5 million for the one of one The One Ringfrom MTG’s Lord of the Rings crossover two years ago.
