InMagic: The Gathering’sSpider-Man set, nearly every character that picked up the Spider-Man mantle is included. Of the many, the most well-known and popular one gets to shine as a Bant (green/white/blue) commander, Peter Parker // Amazing Spider-Man. The front side depicts Peter getting his iconic spider bite, with the backside in his superhero persona.
Mechanically, Amazing Spider-Man is built around legendary spells and the web-slinging mechanic. New to the Spider-Man set, web-slinging lets you cast a spell at a discount if you return a tapped creature to your hand. If you like casting big spells at a steep discount, Amazing Spider-Man is a great choice for a commander.

Key Cards
Peter Parker // Amazing Spider-Man
The Peter Park side is uneventful, andyou want to transform Peter Parker as quickly as possible. Once flipped, you canstart casting your legendary spellsfor just three mana. Amazing Spider-Man has decent stats and keyword abilities, but you don’t want to attack with it all the time due to how much mana you need to transform.
A spell cast from web-slinging is still cast; it is simply an alternate casting cost. So it will still trigger effects that activate on spells being cast.
The spell you cast with web-slingingcannot be colorless and needs to have one or more colors. There aren’t many colorless legendary spells you’ll be casting anyway, and in this decklist, the only colorless legendary spells are artifacts, which aren’t too costly to cast to begin with.
Mana Dorks
A mana dork is acreature that taps itself to add mana. These are important pieces to any deck as they help you accelerate your mana generation early, something that is vital to Commander. With Amazing Spider-Man,they play a key role in paying for the web-slinging cost.
The idea with mana dorks is that youtap them to add the mana they generate, and then return them to your hand to pay for web-slinging. Mana dorks generally only cost one mana, so recasting them is trivial to do. By doing this, you don’t fall behind on the battlefield and can reuse them for web-slinging again next turn.
Heroes' Podium
Nearly every creature in an Amazing Spider-Man deck is going to be legendary, making Heroes' Podium one of the best support cards in the deck. Heroes' Podiummakes it so that every legendary creature boosts each other, allowing them to get massive stat boosts.
The legendary creatures do not boost themselves, only other legendary creatures. So you need at least two legendary creatures on the battlefield to get any effect from Heroes' Podium.
Heroes' Podium also helps you to put legendary creature cards into your hand. This effectcan be done at instant speed, so you can invest a lot of mana in it during the end step before you start your turn, once you no longer need mana up for potential interaction.
The Sixth Doctor
The Sixth Doctor is a valuable permanent to have on the battlefield, as itwill copy the first historic spell you cast each turn. Historic includes legendary permanents (as well as artifacts), so The Sixth Doctor can copy just about every spell you cast in your deck.
Evenif you cast a spell for its spell-slinging cost, it is still considered to be cast, so The Sixth Doctor will copy them upon cast. Normally, The Sixth Doctor costs a bit of mana to cast, but with Amazing Spider-Man, you can get The Sixth Doctor down on the battlefield for only three mana, letting you take advantage of its effect during the early stages of the game.
How To Play The Deck
General Game Plan
A Peter Park // Amazing Spider-Man Commander deck is all aboutcasting a ton of legendary spells at a steep discount by using Amazing Spider-Man’s ability to give all your legendary spells web-slinging. This allows you to cheat ahead of your mana curve, only paying three mana for spells that normally cost far more.
If you don’t have Amazing Spider-Man on the battlefield, other permanents that can accelerate mana are important. Serrah Farron provides a general discount to legendary creatures, and Relic of Legends can create extra mana by tapping legendary creatures. Monster Manual can also be used to put an expensive permanent onto the battlefield directly.
Generally, you are using your mana dorks when you pay for web-slinging.You do not want to use any permanent that costs more than two mana for web-slinging, and even then, unless you physically can’t, it’s best to use a creature that costs only one mana.
The deck is heavily creature-based, soyou need to be wary of board wipessince they can set you back a fair bit. You want tosave your counterspells to stop board wipes, unless you need to counter a spell that is about to win your opponent the game.
Win Condition And Flaws
The primary win condition of the deck iswinning through combat. Most of the deck consists of creatures, and youwill be flooding the battlefield with great creatures by casting multiple a turn with web-slinging. Many permanents boosts the stats of your legendary creatures, such as Crystalized Serah and Heroes' Podium, making the combat victory even easier to achieve.
Thebiggest flaw of the deck is its reliance on web-slinging. A natural downside of decks that utilize big mana creatures is that if the ways to cheat around their mana cost aren’t on the battlefield, the big spells will stay stuck in your hand.Extra mana rocksand mana dorks in the decklist help to accelerate mana quicker, but ultimately, Amazing Spider-Man is what makes the deck shine, and what it needs to rely on.
