Quick Links
There’s a very specific reason whyMage Arenaoutshines many other PvP games, and it’s the ability to speak the spells and watch your character cast them. While that might be the main attraction for the game, there are so many other things that you wouldn’t expect unless you know they exist.
When you’re in a match, victory is achieved by capturing the enemy’s base flag and defeating all of them. If their flag is captured, they can’t respawn, and thus you’ll win. However, there are a few tips that can help you reach this victory much faster.
Mage Arena is currently in Early Access, and the contents of this article are subject to change.
Keep Your Base Closed
The most important tip out of everything in Mage Arena is to always keep your base shut. When you load into the game, you’ll spawn in a castle with a big grassy room in the middle, and you have to open the main door to get out. However, if you keep this door open, the enemies can walk right into your base and take down your flag.
After you exit or enter your base, you can interact with the cage door once again to close it. If the enemies get to your base with the door closed, they’ll have to spend quite a lot of time sitting there and opening it, which gives you ample time to react if you don’t find them around.
Craft Before You Leave
After dropping into your base at the start of a game, you’ll seethree main things apart from your flag: a chest, a tree trunk, and a giant figure. The chest has a total of six random basic materials while thetree trunk can be used to craft different itemswith these materials. Finally, the giant figure can help you create different soups from these materials as well.
Before you leave, it’s important to craft the best items you can with the materials you get. Both you and your enemies will spawn with a spell book and a torch, sothese crafted items will be the main factor giving you an edge over them in the early game. You can refer to the recipe book beside the tree trunk to understand what you’re crafting.
While the book might not be as easy to read, you’ll soon memorize what each item doessince its role is straightforward.
It’s Important To Capture Other Biomes
When you open the map in Mage Arena, you’ll notice that it’s divided into different biomes. You’ll get more tiles if you’re in a larger map, but the actual tiles you get are randomized. Apart from the main flags in your base, you can also capture the flags of some of these biomes, with the most common ones being crystal, snow, swamp, and mushroom biomes.
There is a specific way to get to the flag for each of these, and once captured, these flags will start giving you EXP for your spells.Take another look at your map and you’ll see your current spelllevelon the top left. The higher your spell level, the more damage you’ll deal to the enemies with them.
When your spells are at the maximum level, the fireball spell gets very deadly, and it might even kill you on use.
You Can Get Extra Spells
Once you spawn in a game, you can flip through the pages of your spell book by pressing number keys once it’s equipped. However, you only havethese four spells at the start: fireball, freezer, wormhole, and magic missiles. Here’s what each of these does:
Fireball
Casts a giant ball of fire that deals AoE damage upon landing. Thearea and damage get much biggerwith spell levels.
Freezer
Throws a projectile that freezes an enemy andconverts them to ice for a biton hit.
Wormhole
you’re able to make two separate portals by speaking “Worm” and “Hole”, and you canthen go back and forth between thesetill they last.
Magic Missiles
If aimed towards an enemy, they lock on the target andfollow them until they get a hitor run into a wall.
However, there are a bunch ofother spells that you can get by exploring like Divine Light, Blink, and Thunderbolt. You can acquire these spells bybeating certain biomes or by trading items with the dwarvesif you get the biome with big trees. These spells appear as torn pages and can’t be attached to your book, which means that they take an inventory slot.
Learn Each Biome
Another important tip for victory in Mage Arena is that you should pay attention to each biome and learn how they work. For example, the lava biome gives you some extra spells if you get into the middle building and climb the spiral stairs, while thecrystal biome has its flag hidden deep inside the cavethat you can access through various holes.
There’salso a graveyard biome that contains the Mausoleum, and you may find the Excalibur sword here. This sword one-shots every enemy and doesn’t go away from your inventory if you get defeated. It can, however, be dropped if someone uses the Frog Stick to hit you.
There’s An Easy Way To Get Inside Enemy Base
We mentioned earlier that one of the most important things to remember is to close your base doors before leaving. However, what if you learn that there’s an easy way toget inside the enemy’s base without having to interact with the door?you’re able to do just that in two ways:
While the second method is harder to achieve, it does give youfree passage to the enemy baseand doesn’t require you to deal with the mushrooms.
You can come and go as you pleaseas long as you don’t get defeated, since you’ll lose the Levitator if you do.
Look Out For NPC Enemies
Another special mechanic in Mage Arena is that you not only have to battle other players in the game, but also various random enemies that you may find in many biomes. Here are a few examples of these enemies:
Most of these enemies can defeat you quite easily, so it’s important to know when they’re coming. You can also get attacked by random NPC sorcererswhile roaming around the map.
Go Back To Your Base Often
After reading a few tips on here, you might already understand that your base is the most important tile in the game since you can lose very easily if you don’t pay attention to it. However, outside of the fear of your flag being captured by the enemies, there are a couple of other reasons to get back to your base often.
Firstly, you can easily teleport to your base by holding B on your keyboard, which makes it agreat place to get back together with your teammates and formulate a plan. Moreover, when you reach your base, you might find random items droppedoutside the door by little goblins, which can help you craft more items.
