On August 8, the Mafia series will finally be making a comeback after all this time.Mafia: The Old Countryis the first game in the classic series in nearly a decade, and it will attempt to capture the magic of the first two titles. Something that’s already working for it is the$49.99 price, which is on the lower side, while other publishers are only increasing prices.
However, with this comparatively low price, there have been questions about the upcoming game’s quality and overall length. It’s natural for someone to think that a lower price will get them lower quality or lesser content, but Hangar 13 president Nick Baynes has reassured that this will not be the case.
Mafia: The Old Country Won’t Be A Short Game
In an interview withIGN, Baynes said that fans shouldn’t expect the game to be shorter just because of the $50 price. The price has been set by publisher 2K, but the studio has worked to ensure thatthe game delivers a quality experience, and players get their fill of the world. Hanger 13 has tried to recapture the magic of the first two games.
“If you think of Mafia I, Mafia II, that’s roughly the same scope and scale as this game, and I think hopefully, I don’t think anyone’s going to be disappointed if they’re going into it with that expectation,” he said. He added that the devs have not bothered with the price tag, and have only focussed on making the best game they can.
I think really no one needs to be concerned about the quality of the game or anything like that, or it being super short," he reassured. While he couldn’t reveal the general play time, he did say “It’s not three hours, but going into it expecting a Mafia I, Mafia II style experience, I think everyone’s going to be super happy.”
Speaking of the first two games, Baynes said that the studio learnt a lot from Mafia: Definitive Edition, so long-time fans of the series will be happy with how The Old Country turns out.
