In just 13 days, fans of theMafiafranchise will play the next iteration,Mafia: The Old Country, thefirst new Mafia came in nearly a decade. Ahead ofits release on August 8, developer Hangar 13 has been showcasing different elements of the game, fromits story on the origins of the Mafia itselfto itsold-school gameplay elements, like horse riding and old-timey weapons.
That said, not everyone, particularly long-time fans of the series, is convinced that The Old Country looks like a good game. Immediately following a nine-minute gameplay look, fans began criticizing the upcoming title, one that willdebut at a rather modest $49.99 pricetag and not the $80 pricepoint that gamers have been expecting.
If you’re part of that group that wasn’t particularly impressed with The Old Country, then it looks like Hangar 13 is already beginning preliminary work on another Mafia game, one that could potentially have a bigger budget or be in line with what’s currently being worked on.
Active Job Listings Always Have The Real Details
As first spotted on the Hangar 13 careers website, the developer is hiring a Principal AI Designer. The position, which is based in the UK, will see the developer help craft combat, NPCs and overall AI game design. Additionally, they’ll help balance those experiences based on feedback, among other responsibilities.
More specifically, “Craft new archetypes that fit the vision of a Mafia game. All the way from creative and technical design prototypes to enemy behaviours and abilities.” If that doesn’t sound like a new Mafia game, then we don’t know what does.
Now, a new Mafia game could mean a variety of things, including, let’s say, a remake of Mafia 2, the only game in the series not to be modernized. Or it could be a new entry altogether, though the scope is not known. Either way, if The Old Country hasn’t sat too well with you, then perhaps better stuff is on the horizon.
