After more than a decade in development,Lost Soul Asideis primed for release onPlayStation 5andPCon August 29, putting to bed one of the more hellacious game development cycles in recent memory,in which the project went from solo project to a title under PlayStation’s China Hero Project.
In the lead-up to its release,PlayStationhas gone and shown more of the game, including details about its story and gameplay. For those needing a TLDW, Lost Soul Aside will play out something like this:
When invading dimensional beings known as Voidrax take the soul of his beloved sister, Kaser must embark on a dangerous journey to face this terrifying new threat, save his sibling and liberate humanity.
All of that sounds well and good, but the game’s price might be a point of contention, especially after new information was revealed by its director,as first spotted by Push Square.
Lost Soul Aside Might Have To Lower Its Price Quickly If Sales Aren’t Good
To start, Lunatic Ignus, a content creator who got a chance to spend time with the game, shared that in speaking with Yang Bing, who serves as the game’s creator and director, that it’s being seen internally as an “AA” title.
That’s a pretty telling revelation, especially considering thatthe game is being sold for $59.99,or the original price of most modern Triple-A games over the last generation.
Specifically, the content creator noted that, “The real problem about this game is that it doesn’t stand up for itself. At times, it feels very cheap with animations and combat.” That sounds like the kinds of things unbecoming of a game that costs full price.
They added that while Chinese gamers are intrigued by it, they don’t think it’ll be a success because of that price. Still, with a month out before release, perhaps a course correction will occur. If not, things might not end the way Sony or the studio hoped.
