In a first-of-its-kind sort of move, CI Games, the developers of 2023sLords of the Fallen, have revealed that the game, which is a soft reboot of sorts of the original title, will be receiving a permanent price cut to its digital version, all in an effort to put players first, particularly as physical copies of the game begin to receive major discounts.
The move, which was announced by CEO Marek Tyminski on social media, will also see other games in CI’s catalog go on discount, such as the Sniper series.
Digital And Physical Pricing Have Often Been Very Different, Putting Gamers in Tough Spots
Normally, those who prefer digital copies or have a digital-only console are left waiting for a game to go on sale, sometimes for more than what the physical version is going for. Friday’s price cut, however, ensures that players can pick up the game whenever they’d like.
In this instance, it also makes the digital version actually cheaper than its physical counterpart. As of this writing,an Xbox copy of Lords of the Fallen is being sold at U.S. Best Buy stores for $39.99, making the digital discount all the more appealing.
In all, it’s a rather positive move for gamers, one that could potentially lead other developers and publishers down the line to follow suit. After all, there’s no reason why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare should still be $59.99 several years later.
