Every now and again, an older video game will find a new lease of life. We’ve seen it time and time again, with games likeNo Man’s SkyandCyberpunk 2077being some of the most high-profile examples in recent years.
One game, though, Limbus Company, has seen a particularly impressive spike, with its peak jumping by over 70,000 between June and July this year.
Limbus Company Sets New Record, Becoming One Of The Most Played Games Of The Year
For those unaware, Limbus Company is a free-to-play strategy gacha title released in February 2023. It’s described as: “As the Executive Manager of Limbus Company, lead your group of twelve Sinners, venture into the buried facilities of Lobotomy Corporation, and lay claim on the Golden Boughs.”
Earlier today, the game received a significant content update, featuring newtarget extractionsandE.G.Os. This new content is obviously huge for players, as they have flooded back in their droves.
According toSteamDB, Limbus Company peaked at 115,862 concurrent players on Steam in the early hours of Thursday morning. The game’s developers,ProjectMoon confirmed that a further 135,000 players had jumped in on mobile, bringing the total amount of concurrent players to over 250,000.
Prior to today’s spike, Limbus Company peaked at around 81,000 players in May, before dropping to just over 45,000 players last month. This new record of 115,000 is a 70k month-on-month jump (157 percent) and a jump of around 35k from its previous concurrent player count record (43 percent).
Limbus Company’s 115,000 concurrent players make it one of the most-played games on Steam this year. We used data from SteamDB to identify every game that reached a peak of over 115,862 players in 2025, resulting in 35 games, which gave Limbus Company the 36th highest concurrent player count peak of 2025. It places it in the company ofMecha Break,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, andCall of Duty- not bad for a two-and-a-half-year-old gacha game.
