Difficulty and difficulty settings have been contentious issues withLies of Psince before the game even launched. As far back as 2023,the game’s director Ji-won Choitold me that “We believe Soulslike games shouldn’t have difficulty options. " However, inOverture, the team added them, much to the dismay of Soulslike purists.
Last week, Choi hinted thatmore balance adjustments could be comingto the game, saying, “We are reviewing various adjustments, including difficulty reduction.” Now it looks like this has come to pass. Unfortunately, though, the reductions won’t be for all players as they come with one big caveat.
Lies Of P: Overture Is About To Get Easier, But Not For All Players
In newpatch notesshared by the Neowiz team on Steam for Lies of P update version 1.9.0.0, it has been confirmed that the game will be getting “Reduced monster difficulty”, but this will only occur once players have beat the DLC at least once.
While the sweeping changes will only be relevant to players on their second playthrough and beyond, Neowiz has confirmed that it has “Adjusted stats for certain field monsters in the first playthrough of Lies of P: Overture.” This time, though, it seemingly won’t be for all monsters, and the notes stop before admitting that they’ve been made easier, just that they’ve had their stats adjusted.
For those looking to complete a second playthrough of the DLC but are reluctant to play all the way through to Chapter 9 again, Neowiz has made things a little easier here, too. On subsequent playthroughs, Overture can be started from Chapter 5’s Path of the Pilgrim. Version 1.9.0.0 will also include an array of bug fixes.
Although Overture’s difficulty has been subject to some complaints, the game still topped its record player count, andwe scored it a 4/5, saying, “It’s a great expansion that attempts to give Lies of P its own identity, and while it doesn’t really improve or build upon the features that you’ve grown used to over the course of dozens of hours trawling the streets of Krat, it didn’t need to. I’m more than happy with a second helping of Lies of P.”
