Resident Evil Requiemis already shaping up to be one of 2026’s best games, letting us head back to Raccoon City (even if it’s just briefly) and giving us another truly spooky game in the series to get stuck into.Outside of the game’ssupposedmain character, and the factwe can play in both third and first-person, we still actually don’t know much about it, even though it’s out in less than a year.
Thankfully, Capcom dedicated a section of its recent Capcom Showcase to Resident Evil Requiem, and it looks just as fantastic as it did the last two times it was shown off. This time we got a few more insights into game development, the decisions behind going back to Raccoon City, and a couple of small snippets of gameplay.
It was also another chance for Capcom to tell us that Leon Kennedy definitely won’t be in Resident Evil Requiem, as recent rumors have suggested thatLeon will actual be more of a main character than Grace. In the trailer, director Koshi Nakanishi admitted that he had “always thought about” making Leon Kennedy the game’s main character, but that making a pure horror game around him is “difficult”.
Leon Kennedy Was Considered As Resident Evil Requiem’s Main Character
Nakanishi explains the decision to have Grace as the main character was due to her being introverted and easily scared, as the game will have her push through her fears, mirroring the experience of the player. In stark contrast, Leon would be more grizzled and less easily scared, and Nakanishi believes that “no one wants to see Leon scared at every little thing” and that he’s actually “a bad match for horror”.
I’m not buying it though. Just because Capcom keeps insisting he’s not the main character doesn’t mean he won’t feature in the game at all, and there very well could be more action-focused sections of the game that have you playing as Leon instead. It would be bizarre to go back to Raccoon City and not have Leon in the game at some point, so I’m calling you out for your fibs Capcom. Show me my boy!
