Summary

Capcom finally unveiledResident Evil 9at Summer Game Fest last week, introducing us to new protagonist Grace Ashcroft. But with the long-awaited return to Raccoon City being a focal point, you’d expect a few familiar faces to crop up alongside her.

Well, fans think they did. Or rather, their voices did. As many have pointed out across TikTok and Reddit, likeu/InsiderYet, as soon as the Raccoon City crater appears at 2:45, you may hear a few different characters muttering to each other. One sounds like Leon Kennedy, another like Jill Valentine, and the third like Chris Redfield or Carlos Oliveira. It’s hard to pinpoint who they might be since they share a voice actor: Jeff Schine.

“Investigating all these strange deaths, huh?” a man who sounds like Leon asks. “We need to keep our voices down,” replies who might be Jill. “Have you seen the same sh*t I’ve seen?”, answers another man who sounds like Carlos or Chris. It almost seems like the three have stumbled onto each other in the ruins of Raccoon City, perhaps following the mysterious new outbreak sweeping the nation in hopes that they can prevent history from repeating itself.

Not Everyone Is Convinced

Whatever the case, they undoubtedly sound like the actors, but Capcom has been known to cast the same people in multiple roles, so don’t get your hopes up yet.

Take Nicole Tompkins, ie Jill Valentine, who returned inVillageas Daniela Dimitrescu and Elena Lupu. Neil Newbon meanwhile starred as Nikolai Zinoviev and Karl Heisenberg, two different villains. Yuri Lowenthal also appeared across the series numerous times, voicing Finn Macauley and Neil Fisher. It’s so common that there’san entire wiki pagededicated to actors who have multiple roles. So, maybe they’re the sameactors, but different characters.

Fans likewise thought Jill was returning in Village due to its trailer, only for her to be playing Elena.

One idea put forward is that they’re the other Outbreak survivors, given that Alyssa Ashcroft’s daughter takes centre stage in the same trailer. u/Due-Plum-6417 even thinks that the ‘Chris’ or ‘Carlos’ voice is actually Mark Wilkins, who reunited with his wife and son after escaping the city. However, since Mark Wilkins is Black, Capcom might prefer a Black VA for the role, which Schine would not offer.

An Outbreak reunion is a novel, if incredibly niche idea, but with the focus on the Raccoon City crater, RPD police station, and Spencer Mansion, andwith reports thatLeon Kennedy will be a playable character(with a more prominent role than Ashcroft, even), it’s more likely that these familiar voices belong to three returning characters. But Capcom hasn’t confirmed that any of them will appear in Requiem yet, so take all of this speculation with a grain of salt. We don’t want a repeat of Elena.
