We already knewLego was working on a Game Boy set. However, the company’s collaborations withNintendohas yielded some of the most creativeLegosets that have ever been put out. From RFID chipped sets of World 1-1 to a massive NES set that literally plays Super Mario Bros. on a Lego CRT TV, this collaboration has delivered some awesome sets that cost a pretty penny.

However, if you’re an older game and don’t want to spend too much on a Nintendo Lego set, the classic Game Boy set is just for you. It’s built out of 421 pieces and is about the size of the console. Since it doesn’t have too many fancy features, the set costs$59.99, which is on the lower end for Lego. Oh, andyou can pre-order it right nowand get it in October.

Lego’s Game Boy set with Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land cartridges and lenticular screens.

Classic Nintendo Fans Will Love The Game Boy Set

While it doesn’t have the creative features of the above mentioned sets, the Lego Game Boy does come with its own fun little gimmicks. Firstly it comes with removable cartridges for The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land. This multiple cartridge choice ensures that it’s not just for Mario fans.

The set also features three lenticular screens which will make it look like the game is being played, depending on which angle you look at it from. Two of them are for Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land, while the third features the Game Boy’s start up screen with the Nintendo logo on it.

The overall set looks almost exactly like the original console, with the power switch, d-pad, volume slider and speakers all imitating those of the Game Boy perfectly. The lenticular screens even make it look like the console is on. The only thing that really gives it away is to grooves between individual bricks. It also comes with a stand to display the set.

As an added bit of nostalgia, Lego has also remade one of the console’s original TV commercials with the Lego version swapped in. It’s not exactly like you remember, but long-time fans will recognise it instantly.
