Legohas now officially revealed that its nextTransformersset will be a 1,505-piece Soundwave afterthe first details and images about the set leaked last week. A somewhat unexpected choice for Lego’s first Decepticon, and if Soundwave’s reveal is anything to go by, Lego’s next Transformers will be even deeper cuts.

The full Soundwave reveal shared details that weren’t included in the leak, such as the Lego Decepticon’s ability to talk. Soundwave has a deck built into his chest, which, in his Lego form, will house two smaller Transformers - Laserbeak and Ravage. What we didn’t know is that the buttons underneath that deck actually function and make the completed Lego Soundwave speak when you press the play button.

Lego has officially confirmed its next Transformers set will be a Soundwave one

And it may have teased which two Autobots will be selected for Lego duty next

The reveal video, which you can check out below, showcases some of the words and phrases Lego Soundwave will be able to say, including a declaration that Decepticons are awesome. Jury’s still out on that one. However, after a few viewings, some more eagle-eyed Lego and Transformers crossover fans noticed the framed photos in the background (viaBrick Fanatics).

When Soundwave’s deck is shown standing alongside Lego’s previously released Optimus Prime and Bumblebee sets, you can see framed photos of an ambulance and a crane. Pretty strange photos to have hanging in your home, unless those photos are there to tease which Autobots Lego will be turning into toy bricks next.

The Transformers the photos might be referencing are far deeper cuts than anything from the series that Lego has handled so far. If they are indeed easter eggs, then the ambulance is a reference to Ratchet, and the crane is Grapple. Not necessarily the first two Transformers that spring to mind, even for more hardcore fans of the series, which is why my guess is these two will be a part of the same set if they are indeed being turned into Lego.

The decision to add two more Autobots to Transformers' Lego collection will also be an interesting one if this is the direction we’re going. Soundwave is the sole Decepticon, which means he will be outnumbered four to one. Not to mention Megatron, inarguably the most famous Decepticon and most famous Transformer alongside Optimus and Bumblebee, still hasn’t been given the Lego treatment.

It might mean we start getting Transformers Lego sets at a steadier rate, too. It’s been a year since the Bumblebee set was released, and there were two years between Bee’s arrival and the release of the Optimus Prime set.Soundwave’s set will launch on Jul 30, 2025, for $189.99,and I can’t imagine the only two Lego Transformers we see between now and the summer of 2027 will be Ratchet and Grapple.

After Bumblebee and Optimus Prime sets, Lego has released its first Decepticon - Soundwave. Almost as big as Optimus, Soundwave is 1,505 pieces, but he has something no other Autobot can boast. The button on the set’s deck makes Soundwave utter sound clips when pressed, and the set also has smaller Laserbeak and Ravage sets hiding inside of it.
