Summary
Legohas been working closely withNintendoandSegato create sets based on two of gaming’s best-known characters for the past half a decade. Each of them has quite a few sets to choose from at this stage, and we’ve even reached the point where both the plumber and his hedgehog rival have secret, unrevealed Lego sets that are only available if you’re a Lego Insider.
Lego quietly revealeda set modeled after Mario Kart’s Spiny Shell(better known to most Mario fans as the infamous Blue Shell) at around the same time it releasedthe almost 2,000-piece Mario Kart set. The shell set wasn’t a free gift with the new set. It’s a separate set you may not have seen, as it’s listed on the Lego Insider site, and you need 2,500 points to buy it.
It turns out there’s a similar Sonic set. The exclusive Sonic set Lego Insiders can buy if they have accrued enough points isthe Badnik: Crabmeat set. Crabmeats are one of the oldest villains in the series. Not only have they been bothering the blue blur in games since his first appearance in 1991, but they’re sidestepping in Green Hill in the originalSonic the HedgehogonSega Genesis, which means they’re one of the first baddies you ever come across.
There’s A Sonic Crabmeat Lego Set That Money Can’t Buy
Great News For Anyone Who Has 2,000 Insider Points To Spare
The Lego version of Crabmeat is based on that original version of the pesky villain and even sits on a little green and brown platform reminiscent of the ground in Green Hill. It looks like it might match up well withthe original Sonic Green Hill set, the one that kicked off Sonic’s Lego collection and was made to look like a Lego version of the first stage in 1991’s Sonic the Hedgehog.
I’m still waiting for a similar set that joins onto the end of that one to be released. That was never confirmed to be the plan, but it felt like the obvious next step.
The Crabmeat set is only 181 pieces, but it has an interactive element incorporated into it. There’s a trapdoor on its back that a flicky jumps out of, just like they do in the original Sonic games when the hedgehog defeats a badnik and frees them. Money can’t buy you this set, no matter how much of it you have. The only way to get one is tobecome a Lego Insider and start accruing points.
The good news is that becoming a Lego Insider doesn’t cost you anything.and start saving up points for the Crabmeat set. The bad news isyou’re going to need 2,000 of themto spend on this set. you may get points by buying other sets, and keep an eye out for events or products on which you can earn twice as many as usual.
LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Badnik: Crabmeat
Crabmeat is one of the first villains you come across in the very first Sonic game.
