The latest Fortnite player survey has strangely asked players what they’d call the “full platform where all Fortnite experiences live”, suggesting that a rebrand could be happening soon.
When it comes to online games (and even just games in general), there arevery few out there that have made as much of an impact as Fortnite. Ever since 2017’s introduction of the Battle Royale,Fortnite has been one of the most popular games of all time, and it’s name can be seen in pretty much every type of media.
You’d think that having one of the most recognisable brand names out there would be enough for Epic, but it seems that’s not quite the case.Epic has dropped a few hints lately that Fortnite might end up getting a rebrand in the near future, something that could have even been teased by Epic’s CEO.
Fortnite, one of gaming’s biggest names, could be getting a rebrand soon
“The app currently known as Fortnite…”
Earlier this week, Epic released a survey for Fortnite players that asked them various questions about the game. One such question was highlighted by Twitter user Loolo_WLRD, who shared that one part of the survey asked fans what they would “name the full platform where all Fortnite experiences live”.
Currently, that platform is just called Fortnite, but it sounds like Epic is considering renaming it in the future. It’s not really clear why a rebrand is necessary, considering how well-known Fortnite already is, but it’s likely due to how much the platform is expanding beyond its Battle Royale and Lego modes.
Just take a look at Epic’s plans for Fortnite and Disney crossing over. It certainly feels like an even stronger push into a metaverse.
Usually, it would be easy to shrug off that question as just a weird part of a regular survey, but it’s noteworthy whenyou remember what Epic CEO Tim Sweeney said in an interview with The Game Business. Twitter user SentinelCentral pointed out thatSweeney at one point referred to Fortnite as “the app currently known as Fortnite”.
That interview took place much earlier in the month, but it’s being brought back around now that a rebrand is seeming likelier and likelier. It’s not been confirmed just yet, but it seems like just a matter of time until we all stubbornly call Fortnite what it’s always been called.
