Many people are still waiting for that one really special space game – a sci-fi experience capable of giving us a peek into the universe and making us feel like explorers.

No Man’s Sky, despite itsbrilliant state today after almost a decade of free updates, had a rocky launch that turned many players away.Starfieldfailed to reach the unreachable heights ofSkyrim’spopularity, despite still being a great game (fight me).Star Citizenis full of promise, but we’ll probably land on Mars before that release date comes around. AndBeyond Good & Evil 2… who knows where that went?

The point is, most of the space games that have had big promises or potential behind them have fallen flat; even if they’re good games or have grown in the years since, they’re each far from unanimous praise. With that in mind, I have a suggestion:

Kojima Productions should take us to outer space.

The Studio Is Well Suited To The Idea

Kojima Productions would have no trouble crafting an incredible sci-fi experience, as we’ve already seenDeath StrandingandDeath Stranding 2tackle so much as far as advanced tech, robotics, gorgeous scenery, and downright alien entities in the form of BTs and Chiral Creatures. Even with the sequel, the DHV Magellan feels like a ship that would take you from planet to planet, but instead just travels through the Tar.

The moments that make me feel like this idea would be possible the most arewhen I’m lugging along a bunch of cargo and gear, out in the middle of nowhere, navigating some dangerous terrain. It’s these moments that I picture the environment as an alien planet, while Timefall and other Chiral activity can be seen as environmental hazards of some uncharted world.

Plus, I don’t knowwhat kind of technical wizardry allows Death Stranding 2 to load up in a single second, but surely this could be used for seamless entry to a planet’s atmosphere, right?

A Death Stranding Sequel Could Even Be Set In Space

Sure, Kojima Productions could easily craft a brilliant new IP to explore this sci-fi potential. But at the same time, we could just have Death Stranding 3 take us to the stars.

It’s not even that wild a suggestion (I don’t think anything is too wild a suggestion for this series, to be honest). The games are all about reconnecting the world following the events of the Death Stranding, and staving off humanity’s doom via an Extinction Entity bringing about the Last Stranding. I’ve mentioned that most of these creatures and events seem alien enough already, so if you suddenly told me the Stranding extended to other star systems and there was a Universe Extinction Entity posing a threat to all existing life, I’d be on board the DHV Magellan right away, ready to go and deal with it.

Kojima Productions

We could see humanity begin to colonise other planets, with Sam Porter Bridges working to expand the Chiral Network on an interstellar level. We’ve built countless bridges and roads, so let’s start building new civilizations in the stars. It’s still hard to predict if a game like this from Kojima Productions would be unanimously loved, but with such a strong following and the capabilities proven, I feel it’s the one studio that could deliver us that one space game we’ve all been looking for.
