Summary

Kingdom Heartsfans have been going through it recently. After years of nothing but silence fromSquare Enix, we finally got some news earlier today in the form ofa sudden cancelation announcement from the team behind the mobile spinoff Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, as they claimed they wouldn’t be able to support the title for the long term.

Kingdom Hearts fans went into a state of mourning, though many were completely numb after so many years without even a crumb of news from Square Enix regarding Kingdom Hearts 4. However, it appears as the publisher was feeling a bit sorry for its long-ignored Kingdom Hearts community, and has extended an olive branch in the form of several new screenshots.

These screenshots were sharedvia the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account, and include seven in total. One of the biggest is a picture of Sora in the middle of combat with a bunch of Heartless, in which we get to see the game’s UI, while another gameplay screenshot from the perspective of Mickey Mouse can be seen too, though he seems to be doing a bit of platforming over some chandeliers.

The other four screenshots are of characters or items in the game, one of a young girl, one of Sora, one of a large Heartless that was featured in the Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer, and a very small screenshot of a dial-up telephone. What these screenshots mean, I couldn’t tell you, but I’m sure theories will pour in once Kingdom Hearts fans have thoroughly analyzed them.

Square Enix has released a statement alongside these screenshots though, explaining that it’s “currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts IV” and that it’s trying to make sure that the game “lives up to your expectations”. It goes on to explain thatmore news about Kingdom Hearts 4 will be shared “when the time is right"and that the team “appreciate” the patience of fans.

To be honest, this news has probably brought a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans back from the brink and the soft confirmation of a playable Mickey is probably enough to keep them vibrating until the next teaser, whenever that may be. Fingers crossed it’s not another three years away.
