Summary

Kingdom HeartsandFinal Fantasyfans are uniting in utter disappointment overSquare Enix’s announcement ofKiller InnatSummer Game Festlast night.

Although yesterday’s Summer Game Fest showcase had a whole bunch of announcements(with the highlight, of course, beingScott Pilgrim ExandResident Evil 9), there were also a whole bunch of games that didn’t make an appearance. While Silksong and Half-Life 3 seemed like pipe dreams, there were some more sensible and educated picks that were missing in action.

Easily the biggest examples of this areKingdom Hearts 4and the long-rumoured Final Fantasy 9 remake, which fans were really hoping to see get a trailer or announcement at the event. While this was never promised to us,an appearance from Square Enix was, which only ended up leading to confusion and disappointment.

Kingdom Hearts 4 And Final Fantasy 9 Fans Aren’t Doing Too Good Right Now

“Square Enix Was The Biggest Disappointment At Summer Game Fest”

Last night, Square Enix’s big Summer Game Fest announcement had nothing to do with its beloved series that fans are waiting to see,and was instead all about a new IP called Killer Inn, which is a multiplayer murder mystery that’s somewhere between Among Us and Cluedo. While Killer Inn is a neat idea, it’s far from what people expected to see when Square Enix was confirmed to show up.

As you can no doubt imagine, Kingdom Hearts fans who werehopeful about finally getting a KH4 update aren’t exactly doing too well right now, which is thesame story for Final Fantasy fans eager to finally get the FF9 remake confirmed. Over on social media, the posts about Square Enix at Summer Game Fest are far from positive, with most lamenting its choice in what to bring to the showcase.

It’s not like Ireallyexpected to see Kingdom Hearts 4 after that screenshot dropped, but I still ended up disappointed that absolutely nothing was shown.

A lot of the annoyance that’s being directed at Killer Inn so far isentirely based on the fact that it’s not what anyone expected(or wanted, let’s be real) to see from Square Enix at such a big event.Just a quick search of Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy on Twittergives you a very good idea of how everyone’s doing now that we know we’re not getting any substantial updates.

While Square Enix did have a banger announcement at State of Play with Final Fantasy Tactics, I have to agree that it was pretty “diabolical” to put them on the partners list when Killer Inn was its big announcement. Hopefully Xbox’s Showcase will have something a bit more interesting for fans to take in, as Killer Inn certainly hasn’t lit the world on fire just yet.
