A skilledKingdom Hearts 3fan is doing Yen Sid’s work and trying to fix the game’s infamously “floaty” combat to make it play more like the series' peak -Kingdom Hearts 2.

No matter what some Kingdom Hearts fans try to say,I will die on the hill that Kingdom Hearts 3 is a fantastic gamethat’s one of the best in the series. It absolutely has its problems (like the rest of the series), but that doesn’t stop it from having an excellent combat system, great worlds, and an ultimately satisfying story.

As big a Kingdom Hearts 3 defender as I am, though, I’d be lying if I said that its combat doesn’t repeat the same issues that Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance had. Namely,it’s infamouslyfloatyand can feel a little like Sora’s got no weight to him whatsoever. That’s a far cry from Kingdom Hearts 2’s feel, but it might not be that way for long.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Could Soon Play A Lot Closer To Kingdom Hearts 2

If A Skilled Fan Has Anything To Say About It, That Is

Over on Twitter,Kingdom Hearts content creator TheGamersJoint shared a clip from Twitter user kh3_mod(also known as Komatsuna) whose next project is something rather exciting. As you can see from the clip above,kh3_mod is trying to replicate Kingdom Hearts 2’s physicsto make KH3’s combat less floaty.

The brief gameplay video shows Sora standing outside the Twilight Town mansion and performing a variety of air combos. In Kingdom Hearts 3’s base game, Sora would remain in the air for quite some time, lending to the “floaty” jokes that everyone likes to make. Here, though, Sora falls rather fast, just like he did in Kingdom Hearts 2.

If anyone is going to nail KH3’s combat, it’s kh3_mod, as they’veworked on a bunch of Kingdom Hearts 2 combat animation mods in the past.

In their post, Komatsuna notes that this is being achievedthanks to “the velocity from the previous animation” being inherited by the next one. Essentially, Sora keeps his momentum between each attack instead of it not really being a factor. The mod is a work in progress right now, but if it ends up being finished, it could completely change Kingdom Hearts 3’s combat for the better.
