There’s more going on mechanically inKilling Floor 3than you might expect; at its heart, it’s still just a game about decimating waves of Zeds, but there’s more to it than simply clicking on their heads. (Though clicking on their heads is still probably the most important thing.)

Damage types have a pretty important part to play here too, and can change your performance from middling to exceptional. Taking advantage of enemy weaknesses and exploiting the damage buffs that are present in certain rounds can make for a much easier time, particularly if more than one player is utilizing them.

Every Damage Type

There arenine different damage types. The game gives you some detail about what enemies are weak or strong against certain damage types, but we’ll get into a little bit more detail about them and the effects that they cause.

Mire

Acidic damage is the type of damage caused by the large, round Zeds, called Mires. Itdeals damage over time and corrodes your armor. When used against enemies, it can panic them, which can prevent them from attacking you for a short time.

Ballistic is thedamage type that most firearms are going to do, unless they’ve got some kind of custom ammo type. It’s going to deal normal damage to most enemies in the game, and can cause multiple effects that cause enemies to be unable to take action for a short time.

Flesh | Mire

Biological damage can be dealt easily by certain weapons in the Medic class (though any character can use those weapons), and has a few effects thatessentially debuff enemies, making them less effective.

Flesh

Cold is one of themost effective damage types when you can get it to fully freeze enemies; frozen enemies are completely stuck in place, keeping them from being a danger to you and allowing you to deal heavy damage to them without worry.

Cut is generally on weapons like blades and arrows. It cancause stumble, which essentially stuns an enemy, but it can also cause bleed. There are a lot of interactions with bleeding effects, especially with theNinja specialization, making this an important effect for them.

Mire | Zedtech

Electrical damage only provides one effect, but it’s an extremely useful one in shock.Shock completely stuns enemies on the spot, and is only behind freezing them in terms of its stun utility, though they are both more effective on different enemies.

Armor

Force hasno enemies that are resistant to it. It’s not the most effective damaging effect, but it doescause knockdown and stumble, both of which are effective stuns. This damage type should generally be considered a utility as opposed to straight-up damage.

Flesh | Zedtech

Heat burns enemies, causing a damage-over-time (DoT) effect, as well as panicking them. This is one of the best damage types in the game for purely dealing damage to enemies, and has the bonus of that panic causing an extra effect, too.Firebugs make the best use of this effect.

Sound is similar to force in how it affects enemies, though it hasa bit more utility than force does. While it causes more stunning effects in a shorter amount of time, the drawback is that certain enemies are resistant to sound, whereas no enemies are resistant to force.

How To Best Use Damage Types

The best advice when it comes to damage types would be to have a variety of them ready to switch to between rounds.Make a few different weapons that utilize different damage types, particularly for those rounds where certain types deal increased damage.

You’ll also want to pay attention to your Specialist and their build; certain builds have synergies or extra effects when interacting with certain damage types, and you’ll want to make sure you’re getting the most out of that. You can forego making a build that utilizes damage types, and in that case, you are free to use whatever is necessary for each situation.

If you’replaying with other people, it can be worthwhile to ensure that you havea few different damage types spread between you, as well. It’ll help you deal with a variety of enemies as a group, since you’ll always have someone with a damage type that a certain enemy type is weak to.
