Grounded 2is almost a day old, albeit in early access. There’s a lot to explore in the massive new world, and probably even more in the future, as revealed bythe game’s content roadmap. However, there are definitely some major changes from the first game, among which the biggest is the new Omni-Tool.

As the name suggests, the Omni-Tool is your all-in-one tool for cutting, digging, hammering, and building. In the previous game, you were forced to carry a separate axe, hammer, and shovel, but the devs decided to make it a bit more convenient, and clear some inventory space with this new tool. However, despite how convenient it is, it seems the Grounded 2 community is split on it.

Not Everyone Likes Grounded 2’s Omni-Tool

Over on the Grounded subreddit, nullvenndecided to share their first thoughts on the early access (here are ours). Among the things they mentioned was how convenient the Omni-Tool is, especially when compared to the separate tools in the previous game. It saves a lot of time and slots in your inventory as well.

Some of the comments agreed that it made farming materials much easier, as well as helped with inventory management. However, it seems that a lot of players aren’t too fond of it. As fans of survival game mechanics, manually farming materials is part of the experience, and the Omni-Tool makes that part a bit too easy, according to some comments.

Some even said that they preferred the earlier system, where you could manually hold each tool and swing them around. “The Omni-Tool just feels lazy and should be a mid-late game item you can use if you wanna go farm a bunch of different items, and as far as farming.. holding x and standing there is so boring,” said one comment.

Others pointed out that in a game where the art style plays such a huge part, especially fashioning items into tools, the Omni-Tool looks rather boring. Even when upgraded, it doesn’t look much different. It would have at least been a bit better if you could have used it as a weapon.
