When you saw that a fourth Jurassic World movie is being released this year, you might have rolled your eyes and questioned whether we really need it. Well, whether we need it or not, these movies make money, and that’s almost certainly going to be the case for Jurassic World Rebirth despite its middling review scores.
Rebirth hits theaters this Wednesday and, when it does, there will officially be more Jurassic World movies thanJurassic Parkmovies. They are all still a part of the same lineage, though, and even thoughRebirth has only managed a 54 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it is far from the worst-reviewed Jurassic movie ever.
Jurassic World Rebirth Is A Lot Better Than Dominion
But A Lot Worse Than The Original Jurassic Park
That unwanted honor goes to the movie directly before it, Jurassic World Dominion. With just 29 percent, Dominion is far and away the worst-rated Jurassic movieacross the Park trilogy and World quadrilogy. That’ll happen when you make a movie that’s part of a franchise that people have flocked to for more than 30 years to see dinosaurs and focus on bugs instead.
That didn’t stop Dominion from making a boatload at the box office. Despite its low review scores, it continued the streak of every Jurassic movie with the World name making at least $1 billion worldwide. That’ll be why Universal keeps making these movies even though none of them have even come close to matching, let alone beating, the original Jurassic Park’s Rotten Tomatoes score.
1993’s Jurassic Park has a score of 91 percentand was the only entry from the original trilogy to break the billion-dollar barrier. As it stands, Rebirth is the fourth best-reviewed movie of the Jurassic series andthe highest-rated film since the original Jurassic World, which scored 72 percent. Again, after Dominion raked in north of $1 billion despite scoring 29 percent, Universal won’t care all that much about the score; it just cares that people go to see it, and they almost certainly will.
A lot of marketing has gone into the new movie, too, with a focus on those who will want to buy the toys that accompany it. There’s been a particular focus on the Mosasaurus that was responsible for one of the most over-the-top deaths in movie history, as the sea-dwelling dinosaur will be making its return to the series in Rebirth. To celebrate, the Mosasaurus has been turned into a Funko Pop,as well as a massive action figure.
