As fans ofvideo gamesand overallnerd culture, we’ve all wondered who could win in a battle betweenSupermanand Wolverine, or Master Chief and Kratos. It’s what makes so much of the fandom fun — the possibilities.
But never once have any of us pictured a battle between Mario –yes that Mario— andBetter Call Saul, AKA, Saul Goodman from the larger Breaking Bad universe. However, that’s exactly what actor Bob Odenkirk proposed during a recent interview.
In an interview conducted by IGN during this weekend’s annual San Diego Comic Con expo, Odenkirk was asked about whether he’d like to fight a predetermined group of characters. You know, pretty normal stuff, right?
After being presented with The Brady Bunch, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Kevin from Home Alone, most of whom he’d fight, IGN asked if Mario was also game for a beatdown, to which Odenkirk not only agreed, but also described — in great detail — just how things would go down.
“I’ll kill (Mario)," Odenkirk said. “I’ll tear that mustache off his face, jam it down his throat, take those goggles, rip them to pieces and stab him with those. It’s gonna be bloody.”
Yikes!
If you’re wondering where he got the idea of using goggles from, it’s because a picture of Mario that he was presented with had everyone’s favorite plumber decked out in some cool swim gear. Imagine if he was presented with a picture of Mario with Cappy?
This writer shudders to think of what other beloved video game characters Saul Goodman would happily fight. Specifically, what would he do to Mario’s brother, Luigi? Probably not nice things, if we had to wager a guess.
