Summary
We’ve known thatHitman studio IO Interactive has been working on a James Bond game for a while, simply known as Project 007 since it was announced. Now the game finally has a name, and it looks like we’ll be getting our first look at it later this week.
IO Interactiveshared the update on a Twitter account for the new game, revealing it will be called First Light. “Mission brief is headed your way soon. Stay tuned for more information,” the tweet reads, revealing Bond fans will have to “earn the number” tied to the world’s most famous secret agent. That further confirms that the game will focus on a younger version of Bond than we’re used to in the movies.
IO confirmed it would be stepping away from the comfort of Hitman and working on a James Bond game for its next project back in 2020. However, details on what exactly that game will look like, and anything else about it for that matter, have been few and far between since. The game didn’t even have an official name, although that has now changed ahead of its full reveal later this week.
IO’s Upcoming James Bond Game Is Called 007 First Light
Strap In For A Full Reveal Later This Week
We thought we might have been getting our first look at the game, or at least a name reveal, duringNintendo’s bigSwitch 2Direct in April. However, the tease was just confirming that IO’s Bond game will be launching on the Switch 2. A nice surprise, but Bond fans andHitmanfans alike wanted something more, and they’re about to get it.
As noted above, even though we haven’t been told much in the way of concrete information about 007 First Light, some details about the game have been gleaned from leaks and tidbits of info shared by those in the know. The studio behind the game, for example, confirmed last year thatthis isn’t just going to be the gamification of an existing Bond movie. It’s going to be a standalone story starring the double-0 agent that hasn’t been told before.
As for where we might see the full reveal for 007 First Light, the most likely landing spot, considering the timeframe we’ve been given, isSummer Game Fest. The annual event, which will be crammed with video game trailers and announcements, takes place this Friday. IO may do its own thing before then, but with SGF right there, it makes too much sense for that to be where we get our first look at what IO has been cooking.
