It seems as though the era of the video game exclusive is all but ending (unless you’re Nintendo), as bothPlayStationandXboxhave been experimenting with releasing their games on rival platforms. Of course,Xbox has been far more prolific recently, but PlayStation is starting to share its console exclusives too,starting with Helldivers 2 this August.
After the Helldivers 2 announcement was made, there was concern among PlayStation fans over how much the platform is intending to give away,worried that it could potentially dilute the brand. We don’t know exactly where PlayStation intends to go in all this, buta recent job listingdid suggest that it’s planning on releasing more of its games on Xbox in the future.
Could PlayStation Exclusives Be On The Way Out?
If that upsets you, then you’re going to hate this part. Earlier today, it was also recently claimedby reliable industry insider NateTheHatethat more Sony games will come to Xbox in the future, though he doesn’t have any specific titles to share right now. Of course, this is insider info and not confirmed, but it’s worth noting that NateTheHate did just accurately predict today’s earlier Nintendo Direct.
It’s been the case since the start, but we still don’t know if PlayStation is planning to put first-party games on Xbox just yet. Helldivers 2 makes a little bit of sense, given PlayStation doesn’t actually own developer Arrowhead Studios, and it’s very possible other second-party PlayStation titles like Stellar Blade and the upcoming Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could make the jump eventually too.
There are also rumors of Lego Horizon Adventures potentially launching on Xbox too, since it’s already on Nintendo Switch, but you’ll want to take that one with a huge pinch of salt. In any case, I still think it’s pretty unlikely we’ll see the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn or The Last of Us on Xbox consoles just yet, but with the way the industry is heading, you can’t rule anything out at the moment.
