Sadly,Wuchang: Fallen Feathersis shaping up to be one of 2025’s biggest disappointments. Despite showing promise with its unique ancient Chinese setting in a sea of increasingly similar Soulslikes, mixed critical reviewsanda terrible launch on PCmeant the game faced an uphill battle from the get-go. Whilethe developers quickly released a patch, not a great deal changed, and the game remained at ‘Mostly Negative’ on Steam.
In light of its terrible performance and subsequent user feedback, players have taken matters into their own hands, with a range of fixes being made available, created by Wuchang’s audience.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Players Are Already Addressing The Game’s Performance Issues
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers only launched a few days ago, dropping on July 24, but the game was met with an almost universal audience reception. “The optimization is the absolutely worst garbage I’ve seen in a long time,” said one Steam reviewer, while another added, “Very hard to recommend in its current state. I’m running a 4090 RTX with i9 13k, and it is still noticeably choppy.”
Even the game’s first update didn’t seem to resolve the issues, with negative reviews continuing to pour in. “With their new patch, they optimized me out of full native mode. It’s crazy how deceitful this lie is. I can’t play the game at full resolution anymore,” said a recent review. With this in mind, fans have begun to fix the game themselves.

Over onNexus Mods, a range of mods have been released for the PC version of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Themost popular, which has already seen over 22,000 unique downloads, aims to “remove most stutters, improve performance and stability, decrease input latency, and improve picture clarity. All with no visual loss.”
The mod has been met witha great reception, with one player saying, “I don’t know what kind of magic you cast upon this Engine.ini file, the game looks better and also gave me a 20 FPS increase,” and another adding, “Works perfectly, thanks man. Epic Games should hire you to fix their engine.”
With developer patches seemingly not having the desired effect, it looks like mods are the way forward. Here’s hoping it’s not that way for much longer.
