Wuchang: Fallen Feathersgot off to a great start with an impressive concurrent peak of over 130,000 players in its first day alone. However, with"Overwhelmingly Negative" reviewson Steam, it’s hardly surprising that Leenzee’s debut Soulslike is already haemorrhaging players.

In just five days, its 24-hour peak player count hasdropped by 41 percent to 78,000. Granted, that number is nothing to scoff at, as Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is still comfortably in Steam’s top 20 games. But losing over 50,000 players in less than a week is hardly a promising sign. For comparison,Black Myth Wukongtook just under a month to reach a similar 43 percent drop.

On the plus side, the reviews have already risen to “Mixed”.

Bad word of mouth isn’t just impacting its player count, either, as Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has also rapidly lost its place in the Steam charts. While it debuted as a number two best-seller on the platform, it is now ranked 80th, placing it behind other recent releases likeKilling Floor 3,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,Schedule 1,Split Fiction, andDune: Awakening.

What The Drop In Players Tells Us

Of course, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a single-player game, so the concurrent peak player count doesn’t matter nearly as much as it does for multiplayer and live-service games. But it’s often a good gauge for how something is being received, much like with review scores.

In Wuchang’s case, the sharp drop in players is likely indicative of just how frustrating the PC port’s problems are. The Steam achievement stats clearly show that people aren’t putting the game down because they’ve already beaten it within the first week. Very few people have reached any of the endings yet — 0.9-4 percent on PC, versus 3.2-5.8 percent on PlayStation.

There’s a slight discrepancy, which is likely because of the game’s performance issues. Wuchang is littered with stuttering, screen tears, and long load times, which is hardly ideal for a Soulslike where precision and timing are everything. So, rather than a typical decline, it looks like players are staying true to their word. Several reviews on Steam came from people who had already refunded the game, while others vowed to stop playing until the issues were resolved.

With Leenzee rolling out performance patches and hotfixes, and the review score steadily climbing, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers could win back some of its lost players. However, as it stands, the game is rapidly declining with each passing day, failing to spike even on the weekend.
