Summary
Whether you’ve been a fan ofAnimal Crossingsince the very first game or you joined in with New Horizons, we all end up with some common experiences while playing these games, and that’s what makes the community so fun.
From making instant friends with a new villager to being terrorised by the local wildlife (it’s not all friendly, thank you Blathers), we can guarantee you’ve done at least one of these things while playing an Animal Crossing game. How many will you tick off?
10Got Into A Feud With A Villager
Who Knew Animal Crossing Could Be So Vexing?
Almost all the villagers in Animal Crossing are lovelyand a pleasure to have on your island or in your town. Notice how I saidalmost? Everyone has that one villager who ignites anger just upon seeing them. Sometimes it’s for no reason, and sometimes it’s justified.
Clyde is that villager for me. That stupid, smug yellow horse. He moved into my New Leaf town against my will, and whenever he interacted with any of my other villagers, they became upset or angry, all while he swanned off all happily. Clyde is banned from all my future towns or islands.
9Created The Perfect Design… That’s Off By One Square
Who Approved This?!
New Horizons lets you design your island to your heart’s content. You can terraform new rivers, lakes, and ponds, create new bridges and inclines, and put your buildings almost anywhere you want. But there’s one little caveat.
It’simpossibleto line up everything perfectly. Everything always just looks slightly… off. Especially when you add in paths. You either have to live with it or come up with an entirely new design. Personally, I always go for the second option. I can’t bear to look at a design that’s just one square off.
8Wiped Off Your Custom Design Path By Mistake
All My Hard Work…
Everything’s all done and dusted. You’ve terraformed. You’ve laid out the furniture. You’ve put down the path and the custom design on top. You’re just going for a walk around the island to enjoy all your hard work. And then you do it. You go to pick something up.
And you wipe off the custom design instead. Every time this happened to me, I just stared at my screen and the un-picked-up item in disbelief. Really, game? You think I wanted to randomly wipe off my design, andnotpick up the item? For shame.
7Refused To Pay Off Tom Nook’s Loan
You’re Never Seeing This Money, Nook
I’m not one of those people who sees Tom Nook as a loan shark - he donates his money to orphanages, people! - but a lot of fans do, and as such, they see the last loan as a freebie. You don’t need any more rooms in your house from Nook, so why give him the satisfaction of paying millions of bells? I see the logic.
While you’ll never get the satisfaction of seeing that you have zero loans and don’t owe any bells, youdohave the satisfaction of spending said bells on whatever else you want instead. Pretty smart business move. Just don’t try it in real life.
6Made Unlikely Friends With A New Villager
Did We Just Become Best Friends?
Look, we all know the saying ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’, but is that something we all put into practice? No, especially not when it comes to villagers and their designs. Of course, most fans just want to go for the cute ones.
But there are some instances where you justclickwith a villager you never would have expected to. This happened to me a lot in New Leaf. I’d never seen Agent S before, but she moved in and became my favourite villager. I even have a soft spot for Beardo because he gave me his photo in his final letter to me before moving out - heartbreaking.
5Gave A Villager The Wrong Gift
Oh No… Please Don’t Wear That
A great way to bond with your villagers is to give them gifts you’ve specifically picked out for them, whether it’s a piece of furniture that matches perfectly with their home or a clothing item that will look just adorable on them. However, it can all go wrong with just one misclick…
Give the villager the wrong gift, and suddenly they’re wearing a bath towel instead of clothing. Outside. Where people are. Or, they have amassiveshark tank in their house they just absolutely refuse to put away. At least they appreciate the gift…
4Got Duped By Redd
I Even Checked To See If It Was Fake!
If you want to fill out the art section of your museum or collect some cool pieces for your own decorating pleasure, you have to deal with Redd’s… questionable business practices. At one point or another, you probably had the wool pulled over your eyes and accidentally bought one of his fakes.
We’ve all been there. Some of them have really subtle differences. I’ve even scrutinised it,checked with a guide, andstillbought the wrong piece. Maybe my glasses just need a new prescription…
3Got Taken Out By A Tarantula Or Scorpion
I Was Too Lazy To Buy Medicine…
Tarantulas and scorpions are a menace to Animal Crossing society, but they fetch a high price if you sell them, so it’s usually worth the potential sting.
If you were grinding bells by catching these deadly critters, there’s probably been a time when you got stung… and then got stung again and passed out because you didn’t have medicine on hand and couldn’t be bothered to buy or craft some. We’ve all been there. On the floor. With a swollen face.
2Been Jealous Of Everyone Else’s Design Skills
Why Does My Island Look So Bad?
One of the best, but also worst, things about social media is getting to see everyone else’s fully decorated islands and towns. The creative ways other players use items and custom designs can inspire you when it comes to decorating your own island and town.
But, if the decoration istoogood, you end up looking at your own island with despair. Why doesn’t my entrance look as good as theirs? How come my beaches look so boring? They say comparison is the thief of joy, and I fear whoever ‘they’ are may be right.
1Felt Guilty About Abandoning Your Villagers
I’m So Sorry
It always happens. You can’t play a game forever. Whether it’s months or years after you first met your villagers, there comes a time when you log on less. First, it’s two or three times a week. Then, it’s once a week. Once every two weeks. Once a month. Never…
Every now and then, the thought of your poor, abandoned villagers enters your mind. It’s made even worse when youdolog on, and a villager says they thought you abandoned them. The guilt is immeasurable.
Once, I logged onto my New Leaf town after a while. Rosie said she made a bet with the other villagers that I’d never come back. Ouch, Rosie. A little faith in me, please.
