Would you rather live inSilent Hillor spend a night in Raccoon City? Both are iconic locations in horror gaming with their own levels of danger. One is a supernatural town that forces you to confront your inner darkness and ignored trauma. The other is a biohazardous city on the brink of nuclear annihilation.
While it may seem like surviving one night in Raccoon City is easier than setting up shop permanently in Silent Hill, you might want to rethink before you close that real estate deal. You have more to lose and fear in Raccoon City, to the point where Silent Hill is pretty much an easy street.
10Raccoon City Is Dangerous For Everyone
No One Is Safe
Some people will find it easier to live in Silent Hill than Raccoon City. This is because Silent Hill is not inherently dangerous or even appears to every person. Raccoon City, on the other hand, is a physical place where anyone can find themselves hunted down.
One night in Raccoon City will kill almost anyone who finds themselves trapped within. It doesn’t matter if you had any previous trauma or not; these monsters are real, and they’ll devour anything they spot that is still breathing.
9Raccoon City Has More Ways To Die
I’d Rather Deal With Guilt Than Biological Terrors
There are many ways to die in Raccoon City, and none of them are pleasant. you may be hunted to death by a hulking Tyrant, torn to shreds by Hunters, eaten alive by zombies, or mauled by the dogs. If you’re really unlucky, you might even have a giant bug shove its eggs down your throat.
Raccoon City is kind of a nightmare. Even escaping doesn’t guarantee that you’ll make it out unscathed. You might be taken down by Umbrella or taken in as a test subject for any remaining viruses that might be in your system.
8Infection Is Always A Threat
The Cheapest Way To Go Out
If you die in Silent Hill, then at least you can say that you did your best to get past your own trauma. Raccoon City can be unfair even if you do everything right to escape. This is because you always run the risk of infection, even from one night in the city.
One scratch, droplet of blood, or even breath of air can leave you infected. So, while you may be on a rolldodging zombiesand solving puzzles, you might already be doomed and not even notice until you start to feel woozy.
7You’re Going To Get Nuked
You’re On A Clock
The military isn’t going to step into Silent Hill and save you. Once you’re in, you’re pretty much on your own. However, you might see jets flying overhead in the skies of Raccoon City. Unfortunately for you, they’re not here to save you.
If you see jets, then you’re about to get nuked. At this point, there’s no way to escape unless you have someone coming in to pick you up. At least in Silent Hill, you’re not always on a clock to escape. You can take a moment to breathe from time to time.
6Raccoon City Is Pure Chaos
Nowhere To Hear Yourself Think
If you thought that Silent Hill could be chaotic, then Raccoon City has it beat. You aren’t just trying to navigate an empty town filled with monsters. You’re trying to navigate the streets of a fully populated city.
Are you running past humans or zombies? Is the dog you’re seeing in the corner of your eye as you run a normal one, or is it infected? With people running over each other and creating disorienting noise, it becomes nearly impossible to navigate through the chaos.
5Panic And Trust Issues In Raccoon City
Anyone Could Be An Enemy
There is an extra layer of paranoia that comes with the streets of Raccoon City. You never know who has in for you or who is legitimately trying to help you out. Put your trust in the wrong person, and you’ll end up a casualty of the city.
You’ve got corrupt police chiefs sabotaging any means of survival and rescue operations that might just be out to get you instead of saving you. Even the corporation that owns the city wants to use you for experiments. At least in Silent Hill, you’re able to evade the monsters at sight. In Raccoon City, the monster might just be hidden behind a friendly face.
4More Than Just Illusions
Raccoon City Will Do More Than Mentally Break You
In Silent Hill, you might get lucky when you run into danger. Turns out some of the dangerous monsters and hazards are just illusions trying to psych you out instead of actually killing you. In Raccoon City, all the hazards are real.
Not to say that you won’t die in Silent Hill, but knowing that everything will give you physical damage means the pain is real. That Licker you see crawling around your ceiling isn’t an illusion. That thing will kill you if you don’t quietly leave now.
3The Nemesis Or Tyrant Are After You
Move Aside, Pyramid Head
At least in Silent Hill, you may take a breather from time to time. This is a great opportunity to reflect on your trauma and possibly even discover the key to escaping town. Don’t get too comfy in Raccoon City, there are some big monsters hunting you down.
If your Raccoon City self-insert is a member of S.T.A.R.S., then you’ll have to deal with Nemesis chasing you down across the city. If you’re a civilian, you’ll most likely be stalked by Mr. X. Either way, these are two monsters that would be more than happy to catch you off guard.
2Silent Hill Shifts Around
The Danger Never Stops In Raccoon City
Silent Hill isn’t always filled with dangers. There are times when the entire town is devoid of any monsters. Even if being stuck here is horrific, at least it’s one less thing to worry about. Of course, in Raccoon City, the opposite is true.
The danger never sleeps, and depending on what part of town you’re in, you’ll encountercompletely different horrors. Zombies aren’t just going to vanish and neither will the Hunters, Lickers, and Brain Suckers. You’re knee deep in monstrosities from head to toe.
1All Your Friends Die With You
Die Together Or Survive Alone
At least with Silent Hill, you know that you’re the only one going through all the emotional turmoil that the town has to throw at you. In Raccoon City, you can say goodbye to your friends, family, mailman, and even the neighborhood cats.
The entire city is going down, and you’ll be lucky if you ever see anyone you care about again. So even if you do manage to survive a night in Raccoon City, you’ll be starting life over from scratch with no one to support you afterwards.
