“A pretty decent Direct if the console was 7 years old and nearing end of life. A pretty bad Direct as the first one post new console release”.
One look online, and you’ll find a lot of comments likeu/MyNameIsJesseG’s. Between a shoddyStar Wars Outlawsport, announcements we already knew about — like theBorderlands 4release date — and a cosy campfire game where you toast marshmallows over a Skype call, the Partner Showcase was a complete dud.
No genuinely high value pots that make me feel like this is a new generation of console —u/bnotice.
“Everyone had low expectations, but this is beyond low,” u/equistym said. “Can you imagine, no-one was expecting much but they still got disappointed”.
Bro I didn’t even have expectations and they were shattered — u/Bledixon.
“I think Nintendo has clearly made a misjudgment of not giving out dev consoles a lot sooner,” u/Nightfall69 argued. “There really isn’t much of anything to look forward to that [you] couldn’t just be playing on the Switch 1 aside from the obvious two.”
Hollow Knight Fans Are In Shambles
You can probably guess how r/Silksong is taking the Direct, withHollow Knightyet again a no-show. I’ll give you a clue: about as well as they usually do.
Granted, witha demo debuting at Gamescom, there was no chance in Hallownest that we’d ever see Silksong at a Nintendo Direct this close to Opening Night Live, so anyone hoping for new footage, let alone a release date, was kidding themselves. But as with every showcase since time immemorial, fans were convinced thatthiswas the one.
“The last game is fu**ing Octopath,“u/NoTip3460 said. “We’re never getting it, are we?” u/George_ish commented. “Has to be one of the worst Nintendo Directs ever, sh*t didn’t even have anything entertaining,” u/dablyw_ said. “I got my hopes up,” said u/SrPeachDrink.
One fan simply posted a picture of a noose, captioned “Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm”, with commenters jumping in to say that it’s “Hornover”. Others, meanwhile, laughed through the pain. “I should’ve never believed,” admitted u/joaco_profe.
The Direct might’ve been lacklustre (not because of Silksong — that was always a pipedream), but there were a few exciting reveals nestled between the disappointments.
Square Enix unveiled its Zelda-like RPG,Capcom announced a new Monster Hunter Stories, and Once Upon a Katamari was finally confirmed. But when you compare the line-up to the original Switch, it’s hard to blame fans for souring on the showcase almost immediately.
