The showrunner behindAmazon’s upcomingGod of Waradaptation, Ronald D. Moore, has revealed that he’s watched the game’s cutscenes to get an understanding of the story, while alsotryingto play the game himself.

Considering how cinematic 2018’s God of Waris and how muchgaming adaptations are being pushed in recent years, it didn’t come as a surprise whenAmazon announced that it was going to be making a show based on the Norse saga. Whatdidcome as a somewhat controversial surprise, though, was showrunner Ronald D. Moore’s relationship with the series.

Shortly after it was announced that Ronald D. Moore, best known for his work on Star Trek and Outlander, would be the new showrunner and executive producer on the God of War series,Moore confirmed that he hadn’t played any of the games. This caused a big stir for fans, who expected someone familiar with Kratos and Atreus to be in charge of the adaptation.

Don’t worry, God of War’s showrunner has watched the game’s cutscenes

He’s also attempting a playthrough himself, even if it’s not going well

It seems that Moore might have heard these criticisms from fans, as he recently gave a small update on the serieswhile chatting to IGN at San Diego Comic-Con. For starters, Moore confirmed that since he’s “not a gamer”, he watched God of War’s cutscenes to get an understanding of the story, which is what caused him to become interested in the series.

So if you’re worried about Moore’s adaptation not being accurate, it’s clear that he at least knows the story of God of War and will likely be following it pretty closely since he was “taken with” how the games did it. That’s not all, though, as Moore confirmed that he’s at leasttryingto play the games.

I’m not a gamer. I knew the title, but I didn’t really know what the story was, so I didn’t really know what I was going to be looking at, and I was just taken with it. - Ronald D. Moore

Moore admitted that he’s “tried to play it”, even though he grew up in the arcade era and finds the controls too difficult. It doesn’t sound like Moore’s playthroughs are going too well since he mentions being killed by trolls, but the showrunner is clearly making an effort to get as far into the game as possible while he’s in the process of making the show.
