It’s not easy being aFablefan. There are three mainline games to play, but two of them aren’t on PC, and the one on console is theworst version of the first game. Then, there’s a Kinect spin-off, and not much else, because the original developer was shut down while working on a live service that very few of us wanted, but would have liked to check out anyway.
So, we got a rare glimmer of hope when a new Fable game was announced, but as some fans have just realised, that was more than five years ago now. That’s right, the first teaser for the game was shared with us on Jul 22, 2025 - and it still feels like we’re waiting fora proper look at the game. It’s enough to frustrate fans, and even worry some of them, as we’re so far in and still don’t have a release date.

“I’m going to die of old age before this comes out I bet,” says Reddit user MobileDistrict9784, replying toa threadabout this unfortunate anniversary. Many others agree with this sentiment, with another user saying, “This game is gonna make time in the nursing home so much fun.”
Other fans say they are “losing hope”, with user gamer0613 writing, “It has cancelled written all over it.”
Others fear that it won’t even be anXbox Series X/Sgame, since we know thatMicrosoftisat work on its next console now. “It’s so funny that Fable was announced to pump up the lineup of the Series X, but now it’s looking like it’s going to be a next-gen release,” says ErnestTheStar. Another fan even says that they bought the Xbox Series X just for Fable, so they aren’t best pleased that they’re still waiting to play the game they wanted.
In fact, Fable was announced so long ago that the Xbox Series X/S wasn’t out when the teaser was shared. It wouldn’t release until November of that year, but it was always made clear that it would be a Series X/S release, not making it onto Xbox One.
What makes this more frustrating is that the original release window for Fable was later this year. Now,the game has been delayed, and an Xbox Games Showcase hascome and gone with no new trailer to show off. It’s unclear when we’ll get more news, and all we know is that it is aiming to release at some point next year.
