After the latest trailer only showed him for a brief few scenes,Mortal Kombatfans are certain that Cole Young is going to die, and they’re already starting to feel bad for his character and actor.
Without a doubt,Mortal Kombat has one of the most recognisable roster of charactersin all of fighting game history. That fact made it very strange that the first rebooted live-action movie decided tointroduce an original protagonist called Cole Young and insert him into Mortal Kombat’s lore.
Despite Lewis Tan being very into the role and Mortal Kombat as a whole,Cole Young didn’t exactly go down well with fans, as many thought he was a pointless addition who didn’t make for a particularly convincing lead. Since then,everyone’s assumed that Cole Young would be killed off in the sequel, and it certainly looks that way from what we’ve seen so far.

Ignoring thereport from a well-known insider that Cole Young will be killed off in the first 20 minutesof Mortal Kombat 2,the first trailer for the sequel barely showed anything of him. That could just indicate a reduced role in the movie overall, but seeing as how this is Mortal Kombat, it seems very likely thatthe lack of footage is a sign that he’s not long for this world.
Over on the Mortal Kombat subreddit,, who shared an image of Cole Young’s poster for Mortal Kombat 2 and said, “I kinda feel bad for Cole Young not gonna lie…”. The Redditor points out that a big part of his character is that he has a wife and daughter, so seeing him die (because he “clearly will” is going to feel bad.
The post is one of the most up-voted on the subreddit as of the time of writing, so it seems that lot of people are already mourning Cole Young before he’s even dead. Many of the comments point out that the feeling is less about Cole Young as a character, and more for his actor Lewis Tan, who clearly loves Mortal Kombat and many think should have been cast as someone else.
Or just have the Lin Kuei abduct him, make him a cyber ninja named Coal Chamber…
Of course, it’s not been outright confirmed yet that Cole Youngisgoing to die, but it’s so likely that the mourning process has already begun.There’s a chance it doesn’t happen or he becomes a new version of Scorpion down the line, but it seems like most fans are already starting to feel bad about what’s coming.
