Judging by its launch-day numbers onSteam,Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impactis really struggling to gather an audience, although that might not come as a surprise to most fans.

Over the past few years, games likeDragon Ball: Sparking Zero(and reallymostDBZ games),Bleach: Rebirth of Souls, andDemon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicleshave proven that anime gaming adaptations have simply never been better. That’s not a universal truth, though, which issomething that Hunter x Hunter fans have discovered this week.

Gon about to unleash his ultimate attack in Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact.

Last year, it was revealed thatEighting, the team behind Marvel vs. Capcom 3, was making a Hunter x Hunter tag-fighting game. That sounded exciting, but thegameplay reveals showed that Nen x Impact was significantly lower-budget than most figured, especially with an asking price of $60. It seems that reputation hasn’t managed to leave Nen x Impact’s side now that it’s released.

I guess everyone’s busy playing Donkey Kong Bananza

As pointed out by Twitter user SLOplays yesterday, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact has really struggled with getting players through the door since it launched a few days ago.According to SteamDB, Nen x Impact’s highest player count since it released was a measly 277 concurrent players. I probably don’t need to emphasise how bad that is.

As always, there are a few factors to consider when it comes to Nen x Impact’s player count. For starters, it launched in the same week as one of the most anticipated games of the year -Donkey Kong Bananza. That 277 record is also only representative of one console that the game is available for, soPlayStation,Switch, andXboxmight be having more luck.

The saddest thing about Nen x Impact’s fate is that it’s actually a really good fighting game! It just seems that many can’t overlook its low-budget and high price.

Still, even with those factors in mind, things aren’t looking too hot for Nen x Impact, and the reviews for the game on Steam aren’t much better. They currently sit with a “Mixed” response overall, with players pointing out that its netcode is incredibly bad and that the game simply isn’t worth the high cost of $60.
