Vehicles play a big part inDune: Awakening, particularly once you get out of the opening hours of the game. There are certain areas that are nigh-impossible to get to without them, and they cut the travel time it takes to get anywhere dramatically, thus saving you on survival resources.
But all of that vehicle use is going to result in quite a bit of wear and tear. Over time, your vehicle is going to become a broken-down junker, and things are going to stop working entirely. Rather than build an entirely new vehicle from scratch, you can keep it around quite a while longer with repairs.
How To Repair Your Sandbike
You can actually repair your sandbike with theexact same tool that you used to build it, though that’s not all you’re going to need. You will need yourWelding Tool, but you’realso going to need some Welding Wire, which is going to cost you five Scavenged Metal for a spool.
Welding Wire is also made in the Fabricator, andis researchedat the same time as the Welding Tool, so no extra research needs to be done.
How To Tell If Your Sandbike Needs Repairs
When you’re on your sandbike, you’ll have an outline of the sandbike on the side of your screen. Thecolor of the part indicates the condition, and the darker the color, the worse shape it’s in.
But this is hardly an exact way to tell how damaged something is, and it can be a little bit unclear. There’s a much more effective way to tell exactly what’s damaged and needs to be repaired.
When you’re on or beside your sandbike, hold the F key, and then go to Manage Vehicle. This will bring you to a screen that gives you a ton of useful information, including the exact condition of every single individual component on the sandbike.
How To Repair With The Welding Tool
To repair the things that are damaged, you’ll need tochange the function of the Welding Tool, which by default, meansright-clicking with the Welding Tool in your hand until it’s on the Repair function.
Once it’s on the Repair function, you’ll need toaim it precisely at the component that needs to be repaired. This can be a little finicky, and the only useful advice that we can give you is that, if you’re having trouble repairing the component you’re looking to repair, try to move to get a different angle.
Repairing your sandbike does end up losing you a small amount of permanent durability. Meaning, you could repair something that has 100 maximum durability and 32 health remaining, and end up with something around 90 permanent durability and health remaining.
This means that eventually, you will need to swap out old parts for new parts. But, you can get quite a bit of use out of old parts before that becomes necessary.
