Death Stranding 2: On The Beachhas some incredible music. Much like the previous game, Kojima Productions is supremely talented when it comes to picking the perfect songs for the perfect moments. You’ll often be making a delivery across a challenging yet beautiful landscape only for a song to come on that wonderfully chronicles your melancholic journey.
Unfortunately, in the first entry you couldn’t play music whenever you liked while exploring the open world, leaving you stuck with situational tunes there was no way to control. Lucky for us, the sequel introduces a music player that allows you to listen to songs whenever you like and even make unique playlists.
How To Unlock The Music Player
Upon arriving inAustralia, after stepping through the plate gate, you will complete a couple of short and sweet deliveries to help get the Chiral Network up and running down under. These include the Lone Commander, Government Base, Western Observatory, anda fellow known simply as ‘The Musician’, who is actually Japanese artist Gen Hoshino. I’m guessing Kojima is a fan.
To recruit The Musician, you must progress through the main story untilFragile suggests that you chase up a new main order from the DHV Magellantitled “Destroy The Communications Disruptor and Deliver The Mysterious Recording To The Musician” which tasks Sam with the infiltration of an enemy camp and hiking up a nearby mountain range.
If you’ve already been exploring this early area, there’s a good chance you have already destroyed the communications disruptor by accident on your travels. If this happens, you will instead be sent straight to The Musician’s location.
You can find thesmall bandit camp north of the Western Environmental Observatory. If you already have a road spawned in your world, simply follow that along until you glimpse it on your right-hand side; otherwise, stick to the left of the mountain range as you leave the observatory until you eventually stumble across it.
Be warned thatthe encampment is heavily fortified with patrolling guardsand another that surveys its surroundings from a watchtower.The disruptor is located towards the north of the campand can be hacked and destroyed.
Once that’s out of the way, your only objective is tocontinue heading north and up the rocky mountains where The Musician is located. You’ll know you’re on the right track when a song from Gen Hoshino begins playing in the background.
You can either hike up the mountain or follow a path using a tri-cruiser, which will likely be signposted by speed boosts, generators, and timefall shelters left behind by others.
Once you reach the outpost and make your delivery,The Musician will connect to the chiral network and give Sam the music player in return.
However, this isn’t a physical object which will appear in your inventory, but instead justa new option on the pause menu. Head there and you will receive a brief tutorial on how to play songs and assemble playlists for future deliveries. Be sure to belt out your favourites when nobody is looking.
