To get to the bottom of the mystery, you’ll work alongside an erudite Tonberry named The Archive as you explore the Occult Crescent, taking down enemies and mastering new Phantom Jobs. Below, we’ll take a look at everything you need to know about the Occult Crescent Field Operation, including how to increase your Knowledge Level, unlock new Phantom Jobs, and complete its story quests.

Occult Crescent Basics
The Occult Crescent introduces several new progression mechanics and currencies to keep track of. Here are the basics to keep in mind.
Knowledge Level
Rather than traditional experience points, the Occult Crescent uses a new leveling system: theKnowledge Level. As youdefeat enemies and complete Fateswithin the Occult Crescent, you’ll gain Knowledge, whichworks exactly like experience points. Gaining enough Knowledge will advance you to the next Knowledge Level.
Dying and returning to an Aetheryte in the Occult Crescent after Knowledge Level 5 will cause you tolose a portion of your current Knowledge, so it’s always best to get revived by another player to avoid this whenever possible.
Enemies also have Knowledge Levels, which essentially dictate how much stronger or weaker they are than you. Keep this in mind as you decide which enemies to tackle.
Fates and Critical Encounters areKnowledge Level-agnostic, meaning you can participate in them and meaningfully contributeregardless of your Knowledge Level. You will be scaled to the current challenge.
Phantom Jobs
The second form of progression within the Occult Crescent isPhantom Jobs. There are currently13 unique Phantom Jobsavailable, including the Phantom Freelancer, which is unlocked by default.
Each Phantom Job has its ownunique set of actionsthat you can perform in the Occult Crescent, like the Phantom Monk’s Phantom Kick, or the Phantom Knight’s Occult Heal.
Your currently equipped Phantom Job willgain Phantom EXP by killing enemies or completing eventsin the Occult Crescent. As a Job levels up, it will unlock new Actions and Traits. Plus, when a Phantom Job reaches the max level of 6, it will beMastered.
Every Mastered Job gives astack of Phantom Mastery, permanently increasing yourdamage dealt and healing potencywithin all Occult Crescent zones, regardless of which Phantom Job you have equipped.
The Phantom Freelancer works a little differently than the other Jobs. Instead of gaining Phantom EXP, it willgain one level for each Mastered Job.

FATEs And Critical Encounters
The main forms of content within the Occult Crescent that you’ll be doing a randomFates and Critical Encounters. Fates spawn frequently around the map and involve taking out groups of enemies or a single boss, and have relatively forgiving mechanics. As such, they reward a small amount of Knowledge, Phantom EXP, and Enlightenment Silver Pieces.
Critical Encounters, on the other hand, happen a bit more infrequently, and willnotify you when they spawn. To take part in one, you’ll need to beinside the blue area that the battle takes place within before the CE starts, or else you’ll belocked out of the battle until it’s done. These reward more Knowledge, Phantom EXP, and Silver Pieces than normal Fates.
Treasure Coffers, Magic Pots, And Fortune Carrots
As you explore the Occult Crescent, you may randomly come across aBronze or Silver Treasure Coffer. These willrandomly appear around the worldand can be interacted with to open them and obtain their loot. Treasure Coffers willappear as you complete Fates, Critical Encounters, or Chain-kill enemies. Up toeight Silverand30 Bronze Treasure Cofferscan spawn at once.
It’s a good idea to thoroughly explore the map after doing tons of Fates or CEs so you can gather up all your Treasure Coffers. The Freelancer’s level 10 ability,Occult Treasuresight, will tell you how many Coffers are currently available on the map.
Additionally, you can find Treasure Coffers byleading Magic Pots to them. Magic Pots spawn and begin to follow you around after completing certain Fates likePersistent PotsorPleading Pots. This will also give you the special actionElixir, which willdirect you to a hidden Treasure Coffer. Safely lead the Magic Pot there and you’ll be able to unearth the Treasure Coffer and claim its loot.
Occasionally, when looting a Treasure Coffer, you’ll also obtain aFortune Carrotitem. If you then use this item from your inventory when you’re near achewed-up discarded carrot on the ground, it will spawn aGold Coffer, which yields200,000 gilin addition torare itemslike mounts, minions, and emotes.
Gear And Currencies
There are two main forms of currency obtainable within the Occult Crescent:Enlightenment Silver PiecesandEnlightenment Gold Pieces. Silver Pieces are primarily obtained bycompleting Fates and Critical Encounters, while Gold Pieces are obtained bydefeating monsters.
Each currency is used to buy different items, like new Phantom Jobs, Materia, Glamour pieces, and the exclusive Arcanaut armor set.
TheArcanaut gearis item level 745, and providesexclusive stats while inside Occult Crescent, in addition to theSpecial Attributestat, whichincreases the effectiveness of your Phantom Job actions. Arcanaut gear can also beupgraded to +1 and eventually +2, further increasing the exclusive Occult Crescent stats.
