Quick Links
Days Gone Remasteredcame with a slew of additions and improvements to the original version of the narrative survival game. Those additions included updated graphics, a ton of new accessibility options, and quite a few new modes to play, both changing the campaign experience, and expanding upon it.
One of those new modes is the Horde Assault mode, pitting you against ever-increasing waves of hordes tasked with the sole purpose of ending you. This mode can be quite challenging, and it has a surprising number of moving parts. We’ll go over everything you need to know about the new mode here.
How To Unlock Every Map
There arefour maps availableto play in Horde Assault, each taking place in a different region. These maps are going to have slightly different enemies, very different layouts, and require different strategies than the others.
Unlocking each maprequires getting a certain score on the previous map.
Cascade
Starting Map
With this being the starting map, it’s going to have themost basic types of enemies. It takes place in a forest, with quite a bit of verticality present.
Belknap
400,000 on Cascade
This map is going tocontain Rippers alongside the Freakers, and is home to a number of smaller towns.
Lost Lake
500,000 on Belknap
Lost Lake has some very different terrain, withcaves that can work to either funnel enemiesinto a line or get you trapped with no escape.
Crater Lake
750,000 on Lost Lake
Crater Lake takes place around the rim of the Lake, and hassome of the toughest enemies that the game has to offer. There’s a reason this is the last map.
How To Unlock New Characters
There is a surprisingvariety of characters to play in the Horde Assault mode. Each of them isunlocked simply by leveling up, and they’re all simply cosmetic differences; there’sno difference to the actual gameplay.

Injectors
Injectorsact as modifiers for your run. There are positive Injectors and negative Injectors: positive Injectors give you a bonus throughout your run, while negative Injectors give you a detriment throughout your run.
A positive Injector gives you a negative score multiplier at the end, while a negative Injector does the opposite.
You canuse up to three Injectors in a run, or forego using them entirely. These negative multipliers can help you gain a significantly higher score than you otherwise would, but they can also lead to you dying quite a bit quicker.
On the flip side, positive multipliers can be a massive help, but they’ll also contribute to a much lower score.

Hordes
Hordesare going to be themajority of the enemies that you face in Horde Assault, and killing Freakers in the Horde is going to increase your score and increase your level after the run is over.
Horde Health
Thetop right of your screen is going to display the overall Horde health, and is a good indicator of how many Freakers you have left in this wave. Waves can contain multiple Hordes, and this health indicator usually takes into account every Horde in the wave, not just the particular Horde that’s right in front of you.
Horde Spawning
Somewhat strangely,Hordes can spawn directly in front of you; this can be a particular problem when driving your motorcycle down a straight road. Be ready to swerve to either side if and when this happens, and know that creating distance from one Horde doesn’t necessarily get you away from all of them.
How To Survive Horde Assault
There is no beating Horde Assault; it’s simply going to keep throwing Hordes at you until you die. There are, however, lulls in the actionwhen you clear a Horde, and the game gives you theopportunity to move around the mapwithout as many enemies aroundto scavenge supplies and prepare yourself for the next round.
Supply Drops
This is a great time to get to one of the many Supply Drops scattered around the map. These will contain one of three upgrades, with one of them usually being anew weapon, and you’ll get to choose what you would like.
There will be a certainscore requirement for opening the Supply Drop, so you’ll need to continually kill Freakers in order to keep opening them.
Create Kill Lanes
The best thing you can do in Horde Assault, and against Hordes in Days Gone Remastered in general, is tofunnel them into a tight area. Hordes have a tendency to attempt to surround you, and they will avoid fire and other damaging effects on the ground in their way.
But if they have no other options, you can kill more of them with one explosive, and they’ll be forced to move through the flames.
Scavenge Everything You Can
Supplies will be scattered all around the map, and those supplies are going to be the difference between you living and dying when your original count of supplies runs out. Surviving this mode is not impossible when you have a variety of tools at your disposal, but survival is nearly impossible once you’ve got almost nothing left.
Of particular importance here is the ability tocontinue crafting Molotovs and their more powerful counterpart, alongside other explosives.
You can avoid getting hit in many situations if you manage your stamina and keep your motorcycle close enough, making medical supplies a slightly lower priority.
But, the ability toslowly whittle down Hordes with explosives, and with ammunition, is what’sgoing to make all the difference.
