Fast travel comes in many different forms when exploring the open world ofDeath Stranding 2: On The Beach. Kojima Productions has been far more generous with this mechanic in the sequel, allowing you to jump across Australia and Mexico with relative freedom using a load of different methods.

You can hop aboard the DHV Magellan, soak in a magical teleporting hot spring, or use the Beach to travel across continents in a matter of seconds. If you don’t fancy walking or using a variety of vehicles to cross both countries, there are other ways to get around. Here’s how.

Sam runs to the DHV Magellan before fast travelling in Death Stranding 2.

How To Fast Travel Using The DHV Magellan

In thefirst ten hours or so of Death Stranding 2, you will be expected to go it alone without the means of fast travel. This makes sense, considering you are linking up two different places for the first time and building the roads and rails, and other amenities required to make this a reality.

So,it isn’t until you reach West Fort Knot and encounterHiggsand confront his deadly army of ghost mechs for the first time that fast travel becomes available.Defeat the octopus mech boss battlethat emerges when you’re about to connect West Fort Knot to the chiral network, and you will unlock the game’s first form of fast travel.

The DHV Magellanwill emerge from the tar currents just outside the city before Tarman and company let Sam know thathe can now use the vessel to travel underground to anywhere in the worldyou’ve visited before. Well, so long as it’s directly linked to a porter on the network.

to activate fast travel, enter the pause menu and hold the ‘X’ button to chart a courseusing the DHV Magellan. It doesn’t matter whether you’re on board or not, it will still work as intended.

There are some restrictions to traveling aboard the DHV Magellan, though. You can’t transport organic materials like wildlife, whileany orders made using the vessel will end up docking your gradebecause you didn’t complete them yourself.

Unfortunately, the DHV Magellan has a habit of disabling fast travel during specific moments in the narrative, such as when the tar currents begin acting up, or you’re encouraged to finish a specific story sequence or order before being given access to the open world once again.

Sam and Dollman relax in a hot spring in Death Stranding 2.

Otherwise, it’s a great means of fast travel and likely to be your most commonly used sinceit has both a private room, a terminal for crafting items, and plenty of other bonusesthat make it more convenient than the other two methods I’m about to discuss.

How To Fast Travel Using Hot Springs

By the time you encounter your first hot spring in Death Stranding 2, you’ll likely have been using the DHV Magellan to get around for dozens of hours.

Your first hot spring can be found after visiting Heartman’s Lab, in which he will explain not only the benefits of having a good soak, but also how these new structures can be used as a way for Sam to perform ‘Hot Spring Jumps’ to other springs across the open world.

While sitting in a hot spring, Sam and Dollman will soon begin singing an adorable song called II Yu Dana by The Drifters. It is a dangerously catchy tune.

Aside from one located nearThe Motherhood, you will need to build them yourself, and they are a little more complicated than simply placing one down and calling it a day.

Sam approaches a transponder in order to fast travel in Death Stranding 2.

You will need to equip a PCC Level 2 and use it to detect heated groundwater beneath the surface in order to construct hot springsof your own. Listen out for a sound to determine the correct location, and the louder it gets, the closer you are to the water source.

In select hot springs, you can alsopress L1 to look up at the stars, giving Sam a way to relax and regain stamina while seeking out constellations that resemble his favourite people.

How To Fast Travel Using Transponders

Transponders are the final form of fast travel to be unlocked in Death Stranding 2, and also the most convenient when it comes to traveling to major locations and completing orders. You won’t unlock them until much later in the campaign when endgame deliveries become more paramount.

You can interact with these like any other structure in the game, pick a location, and then do abeach jumpto hop across the open world instantaneously. However, they come with many of the shortcomings associated with fast travel via hot springs and the DHV Magellan.

Cargo can’t make the jump and will be placed in a private locker unique to each transponder or hot spring the second you travel, while vehicles can’t make the jump either. Fast travel is a more convenient and accessible tool in the sequel, but it can’t be used as a shortcut when beating quests while reaping the same rewards.
