WhileDate Everythingis indeed a game where you’re able to, in fact, date just about everything, these objects have lives and interests of their own, too. They don’t exist just for you to fall in love and make enemies with. They had things to do long before you came along, and Maggie is a prime example of that.
One of the very first Dateables you are introduced to, Maggie is a detective extraordinaire who can crack open any case, and she enlists your help with this one. There is a counterfeit object on the loose within the house, and Maggie cannot allow such a travesty to remain unanswered. Let’s get to the bottom of this mystery.
Where To Meet Maggie
After the opening section of the game, you can find Maggie in the very same place she was introduced -the magnifying glass. There is not a logical explanation for why there is a giant magnifying glass in this house, but it is simply there. Maybe it is a mystery Maggie herself can solve.
With only a single chat behind you, Maggie wastes no time enlisting your help. She doesn’t usually take on assistants in her investigations, but this one calls for a fresh eye. Who better to pick out a counterfeit object than the owner of all these objects? You see, not only is there a counterfeit object in the house, but arumour has spread claiming they are not real silver.
You cancheck in here with Maggie whenever you wish to continue the investigation, or you can go right to the witnesses that are currently available.
Meeting With The Witnesses
After picking up the rumour about the counterfeit silver, Maggie currently has three different people she wishes to question in regards to this counterfeit silver -Lux, Hoove, and Wallace. Here’s where to find each of them, and what to expect when you get there.
You can’t brute-force the investigation, either. You have to follow it through step-by-stepto build a logical case.
Lux
Lux is the many lights around the house, from the standing lamps in most rooms to the light switches on the wall. Yetduring the course of the investigation, Lux is nowhere to be found. His Instaglam accounts apparently deleted and no other means of reaching him. So by Maggie’s own admission, this is a dead end. No choice but to move on to the the other witnesses.
Wallace
Next up is Wallace. That’s the wall at the very top of the stairs, right between your bedroom and the home gym. Like usual, he doesn’t have much to say beyond ‘Wall’, but Maggie is a master at this, and can deduce exactly what he means. Which is to say he hasn’t heard a thing about all this. That’s another dead-end. Just one witness left to track down.
Hoove
Hoove is our final witness, and the first to actually give us a lead we can follow. Hoove is the vacuum you can find in the utility closet in the washroom attached to the kitchen. Speak with him, and he’ll say though he doesn’t know anything about it himself,he heard that Stepford was looking into silver polishing equipment, if that’s of any relevance. Nothing definitive, but it is a new lead.
While Hoove is listed as one of the initial trio of witnesses, you’re able to’t actually question him until you have first spoken with Lux and Wallace.
Stepford
Finally, we have Stepford. He is the collection of old trophies and medals on the shelf in the home gym. Make sure you interact with the objects on the shelf, not the shelf itself, if you want to speak with Stepford. Talk to him, and he’ll immediately unsettled. Not wanting to let loose any names, put him under some pressure to get him to spill the beans.
It was Scandalabra that he first heard the rumours from. Afraid of allowing his own silver to tarnish, Stepford bought into the rumours. But it all started back with Scandalabra. Finally, you have more than just a lead. You may very well have your perpetrator.
Interrogating Scandalabra
If you’ve met Scandalabra prior to this point, you will know he is nothing more than a rumour mill, spreading lies and seeking out secrets all in service of his own ego. If you haven’t met him, then you’re able to find him on the table in the Dining Room. He’s the supposedly silver candelabra. Talk to him to get the interrogation going.
If you’ve spoken to Gaia before, she will offer a hint that Scandalabra isn’t quite as foreignand exotic as he makes himself out to be.
Opening up your question, Scandalabra will refuse to be put on the backfoot, and will retort immediately with accusations and defences of his own. You will be presented with a series of questions, all of which you can ask before continuing. However, the most important is “How about the issue of shininess?”. This is where all of Scandalabra’s defense comes crashing down.
When asked, he will claim, rightfully so, that real silver must be polished to bring it up to its fine lustre. After this, Maggie points out a contradiction,a much more definitive marking of silver - it’s stamp!Indeed, all genuine silver will have a stamp that indicates its composition, of how much real silver was used. And what does this reveal on Scandalabra?
A sticker with the following words - ‘Made In New Jersey’. Not quite so aristocratic as he made himself out to be, after all. Not even genuine silver. A rumour started to disguise his own inadequacies. A tale as old as time. But the reveals don’t stop there. Scandalabra’s name and accent are also falsities! His true title?Jon Wick, a typical New Jersey man with the accent to boot. His house of cards, collapsed.
From this point on,Scandalabra will go by the name Jon instead.
And with that, the investigation into the counterfeit silver is solved.Case Closed. Or it is?
Investigating Sinclaire
Indeed, the counterfeit silver case is complete, an open-and-shut case. But Maggie isn’t quite satisfied yet, not when there is one more major case to solve in the home -the truth of who Sinclaire really is. Is he man like he claims, or is he sink like he appears. Maggie hopes to close this case once and for all.
Before speaking with Sinclaire for the investigation, make sure you haveSmarts of at least 25, and Sass of 40to get the best outcome.
Approach Sinclaire when you are ready, but make sure you’re prepared. How this investigation is solved will directly impact your endings with both Maggie and Sinclaire, and a wrong step can be disastrous. Maggie herself warns you to be careful with. Sinclaire is sensitive right now, and one wrong word could send him spiraling.
Start talking, and Sinclaire will give a similar rundown of events like he has before. Leaving work, going to a specific bar, and speaking with a very unusual oracle. Except some aspects, such as whether or not the Shirley Temple drinks are alcoholic, seem to have shifted. Pick him out on this, andhe will also let slip about Jimson Weed. This is an essential part of the puzzle.
To mention the Jimson Weed, you will need Smarts of 25. Jimson Weed, which is real, has incredible hallucinogenic capabilities. Something that seems rather pertinent to Sinclaire’s common gaps in memory and inconsistency. He couldn’t even name the specifics of his own job. Clearly, something is amiss.
When it comes to the end of the matter, you must make a choice:
The first option willcause Sinclaire to spiral, making him hate youand never quite be capable of having a normal conversation ever again. This outcome will also severely disappoint Maggie.
The second option willbring much pleasure to Sinclaire, and Maggie if you may back it up. This lets you avoid the Hate ending with Sinclaire, and successfully love the investigation for Maggie.
The third option will simply leave things as they are.Sinclaire will be sad, but overall nothing will change with him.Maggie, however, will take this as a failurein regards to the investigation.
Whichever option you choose, you canspeak to Maggie the next chance you haveto finally wrap all of this up.
