Satisfactoryis a game all about being as efficient as possible. From resource acquisition to processing and transport, you’ll be in charge of every step of an item’s journey from ore to complex component, and the most fun part is to do it as efficiently as you can.
Luckily, the game gives you more than enough tools to take advantage of that will help you run your factory smoothly, like the Smart Splitter. Compared to a normal Splitter, the Smart Splitter can be used to efficiently sort items into different conveyor belts depending on your needs. Below, we’ll take a look at how to unlock, craft, and use Smart Splitters.
How To Unlock Smart Splitters
To unlock Smart Splitters, you first need toresearch Caterium in the MAM. Find a piece of Caterium out in the world to unlock this research tree.
Then, you’ll need to unlock the following research nodes in the Caterium tree before you’re able to research Smart Splitters.
Once you have AI Limiter unlocked, you canresearch Smart Splittersby supplying the following materials to the MAM.
Now, with the research completed, you may freely craft Smart Splitters usingtwo Reinforced Iron Plates, two Rotors, and one AI Limitereach.
How To Use Smart Splitters
Despite its name, Smart Splitters are essentiallydumbed-down versions of Programmable Splitters. Smart Splitters let youchoose a single item that is allowed through the left, center, and right outputs, which is nice if you have belts loaded with only three or fewer different types of items.
Simply open up the Splitter’s interface, then choose from the dropdown which item is allowed through each output. Additionally, you can choose theAny, None, Any Undefined, or Overflow options, which we’ll break down below.
You can use these rules to sort through belts with multiple items on them, like if you use one belt to carry items from several different production lines. Additionally, you can make Smart Splitters function almost exactly like Programmable Splitters by chaining them together, although at that point it’s probably easier to just use a Programmable Splitter.
