The Edge of Fate expansion is going to make some radical changes toDestiny 2’score systems. Items will now be tiered, difficulty cards will let you fine-tune combat difficulty, and buildcrafting is receiving some major changes through Armor 3.0. Needless to say, most of the game is about to undergo some significant changes that will affect all players.
Fortunately, there are some things you can do in the interim to prepare for The Edge of Fate. This guide will explore some options for best preparing for the upcoming expansion, including basic Vault housekeeping to more niche topics like illegal armor rolls.
Farm For Mobility And Intellect Armor
This will be the most niche advice we’ll be giving in this guide, but it’s critical to mention for buildcrafters planning to dive into Armor 3.0 on day one.Due to the new way stats roll on armor, certain stat combinations currently in the game will beimpossibleto obtain once Edge of Fate releases. If you care about min-maxing your stats, you might want to stockpile these ‘illegal’ rolls now before they become inaccessible.
These are all the stat combinations that will become impossible to replicate in Edge of Fate.
Recovery + Strength
Class + Melee
The standout here isMobility + Weapons, which will be converted toWeapons + Superin Edge of Fate. There are no armor archetypes in Edge of Fate that have Weapons and Super lumped together, so you’ll need to mix and match archetypes to get similar stats. Even then, they won’t be as high as a full set of Weapons + Super gear acquired now.
Remember:all armor is being converted to Armor 3.0.Stat totals will remain the same; the only change to pre-existing armor is the conversion of Mobility, Resilience, and Recovery to Weapons, Health, and Class, respectively. If you’re able to get these illegal rolls now, you’ll have far more options for build experimentation heading into the new expansion.
Clean Out Your Vault
The month leading up to a new expansion is the ideal time to clean out your Vault.Vault space isnotincreasing with Edge of Fate, so the 700 slots you have are all you’ll have to store the myriad of new items getting added. Needless to say, you’ll want a spacious Vault to store all the new tiered weapons, armor sets, and whatever else Guardians will find on Kepler.
As tempting as it is to purge everything in your Vault, you don’twant to delete all your armor and weapons.Gear tears arenotmaking current items obsolete. Meta weapons will still be incredibly strong in Edge of Fate, and high-stat armor you own now will be on par with T3 gear in the upcoming expansion. It’s likely T4 and T5 items won’t be obtainable until after the raid launches, so if you’re prepping for Contest mode, don’t destroy everything you own.
You should ideally aim to have200 free spots in your Vault, 300 if you may swing it. With the new gear tier system launching with this expansion, comparing weapon and armor rolls will get slightly more laborious. At the very least, give yourself enough room to store an armor set for each build you tend to play. Weapons aren’t getting powercrept with this new system, but your current armor will likely be outclassed once you start farming endgame activities. ensure you have room to store them.
Complete This Year’s Seasonal Questlines
The expansion cycle in Destiny 2 always comes with the removal of seasonal content.Once Edge of Fate releases, certain content from Episode Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy will be removed from the game.If there are weapons from each season that you’re interested in, we suggest completing all episode questlines and getting those weapons before they leave the game.
We highly recommend that you completeEpisode: Echoes, as the last portion of this questline unlocks the Choir of One Exotic through theEncore mission. This is the most versatile weapon in the game, capable of clearing adds, destroying Champions, and even doing some solid burst DPS with its hipfire mode. Echoes is also the last season to have craftable weapons; Revenant and Heresy weapons only have random rolls.
Stock Up On Upgrade Materials
As you acquire new items in the expansion, you’ll eventually replace all of your armor with high-tier sets.Masterworking entire sets of armor gets expensive quickly, especially if you’re masterworking new Exotic rolls. You’ll want to stock up on Ascendant Shards, Enhancement Prisms, and Enhancement Cores to prep for the onslaught of masterworking that’ll ensue with recalibrating your builds.
Grandmaster Nightfalls won’t be available right at launch, soyou’ll want to focus on Ascendant Shards first.you’re able to farm Enhancement Cores and Prisms through elective-difficulty PvE content, but Ascendant Shards are tricky to farm in bulk outside of GMs. Get a full stack of them before the expansion drops to ensure you’re ready to upgrade any good armor you get.
Chase God Rolls
The year of Final Shape has brought some fantastic weapons to the sandbox, some of which will likely outclass the new tiered weapons we’ll be getting in Edge of Fate. Be sure to grab these weapons before the expansion drops.
