After many years of regular additions to the killer roster,Dead By Daylighthas finally added the killer that the community has been asking for a long time. The Animatronic, coming straight from the world of Five Nights at Freddy’s, joins the fog and gets together with The Entity as the 40th killer in the game.
Once you purchase this killer through the DLC or the in-game store, you may use him in trials and enjoy his unique power. While not the best killer in the game, Springtrap can still easily help you win every game once you understand his power and use the right perks.
How Does The Animatronic’s Power Work?
The Animatronic’s power might seem complicated when you read through it, but it’s very simple in practice. His ability can be divided into two parts: Fire Axe and Security Doors. Ifyou’ve played The Huntress before, you’ll feel a lot of familiarity with the Fire Axe as it shares a lot of things with The Huntress' hatchets.
However, there are also a lot of differences. While in-game, you canhold the power button to aim with the axe and then the attack button to throw it. The axe follows an arc-type trajectory where it goes straight with high speed for a bit but then falls down very quickly instead of continuing on its path, unlike the hatchet.
The Fire Axe alsocomes out slightly from the right of your screen, which makes it miss if you’re aiming at the center when the Survivor is too close.
If you hit the Survivor with your Fire Axe, it makes them lose a health state andgets embedded in them if they were healthy at the time of the hit. You can then see the axe’s aura in white, telling you the position of the Survivor. However, the Survivor can also start the process of removing the axe, and the aura goes away as soon as they start it.
Survivors can’t heal themselves until they take the axe out, and you’re able to also recall the axe once the bar on the bottom left fills up. If the Fire Axe doesn’t hit the Survivor,it gets embedded in the surface that it contacts, and you’ll get Killer Instinct whenever a Survivor goes into the radius of this embedded axe.
You canrecall the axe much fasterif you miss the shot and it gets embedded in the environment.
The other part of Springtrap’s power essentially lets him traverse through the map at lightning speed. you’re able to enter any of the seven doors scattered around the map. You become Undetectable as soon as you enter these, and you can choose any of the other doors to come out of. There’s no cooldown to this teleportation so you can use it continuously.
Survivors can also interact withthese doors to switch between the cameras on top of them. If you’re around any of these cameras, they can aim at you for a few seconds to reveal your aura to other Survivors, even through walls. Survivors can also use these doors to teleport across the map, but their animation is much slower and if you’re in the doors at the same time as a Survivor, you instantly grab them.
Tips For Playing The Animatronic
The Animatronic’s gameplay might feel plain in theory, but he’s one of the highest skill-ceiling characters in the game. While you don’t need to reach this ceiling to use him efficiently,it does add a lot of fun when you’re playing the character. Here are a few tips that can help you achieve greatness with him:
Bonnie’s Guitar Strings
Rare
This is the most valuable add-on for The Animatronic as it lets youidentify the generator with the most progresswhen you’re inside the security doors. This will tell you exactly where you need to go.
Celebrate! Poster
Very Rare
This add-on gives all players within 32 meters of a Survivor with an axe embedded in them 12 percent Haste and 20 percent Vaulting speed. While this bonus applies to both the Survivors and you, it benefits you a lot more.
One of the reasons for this is thatyour lunge can cover much larger distancesince it’s based on your movement speed at the time of the lunge.
Ripped Curtain
Uncommon
The Survivors hit by your axegain Hemorrhage and Mangled, giving you a lot of free slowdown.
Purple Guy Drawing
You can see theSurvivor’s aura when they remove the axeor perform rushed actions with the axe embedded in them.
The Animatronic’s Unique Perks
The Animatronic comes with three teachable perks that you may unlock onother killers automatically by reaching prestige one on him. You can also unlock the higher rarities of these perks by reaching prestige two and three respectively. Here’s what these perks do:
Help Wanted
When you break a generator, it gets the Compromised effect. When this generator is completed, you get a 25 percent faster basic attack cooldownon successful hits. The Compromise effect only affects the last generator you kicked.
Phantom Fear
Whenever this perk is active and a Survivor is in your terror radius, they scream and reveal their aura for two seconds to you. The perk has a 60-second cooldown after each usage.
Haywire
If the Survivor stops working on an exit gate switchonce they’re past the 80 percent progression, it starts regressing at a 100 percent rate.
Best Builds And Perk Synergies For The Animatronic
While a killer’s uniqueness in DBD comes from their powers, they still share a pool of perks with every other killer. You can choose any four of these perks to create a build on The Animatronic once you have them unlocked, andsome of them synergize quite well with each otherand the killer:
It’s important to haveall your perks at the highest tierwhile using them.
Gearhead
Gearhead is one of the best aura-revealing perks for The Animatronic. Itactivates when the Survivors lose their health state by any means. While activated, whenever a Survivor performs a good skill check on the generator, their aura is revealed for eight seconds.
This will let you determine the generator that they’re working on while you’re chasing a Survivor.
Pop Goes The Weasel
Once you’ve hooked the Survivor as The Animatronic, you can quickly teleport to the generator that the Survivors were repairing andkick it to make it lose a ton of progress instantlywith this perk.
Trail Of Torment
As you kick the generator, this perk will help you get the Undetectable effect for a long time. There are two ways to use this effect.you’re able to either try to ambush another Survivor or stay insidea door nearby until the perk deactivates and chase the Survivors on the generator.
Call Of Brine
Finally, since you’ll be kicking a lot of generators with this build,Call of Brine can help you get a lot more regressionon it for free.
You can use theStreamers add-on with this buildto make your teleportation faster.
Lethal Pursuer
This perk lets you see the Survivors for a long time at the start of the trial, which helps you start your first chase quicklywith the instant teleportation. It also extends the aura reveal from all other perks.
I’m All Ears
Whenever the Survivor vaults a window, pallet, or locker, you may see their aura when this perk is active. Thiswill let you mind game them easier near a window.
Nowhere To Hide
If you know Survivors were on a specific generator but they’re stealthing around, you can kick the generator to see their aura.
Tinkerer
Finally, while not an aura perk, this willhelp you protect your generators a little betterand also give more uses to Nowhere To Hide.
you’re able to use this build with theRipped Curtain and Purple Guy Drawing add-onsto get more aura reveal and some slowdown.
Save The Best For Last
The successful basic attack cooldown from this perkcan stack with Help Wanted, letting you get a free downif you play your cards right.
Machine Learning
This perk also works with a Compromised generator, giving you eight percent Haste when the generator is finished. With both this and Help Wanted, you’ll feel powerful whenever the right generator is finished.
Fire Up
Finally, since Help Wanted relies on generators being finished, you can also use Fire Up toget increased speed on a bunch of your tasks with this.
This will help you reveal the Survivor’saura for four seconds instead of two, giving you more time to choose the right path.
Starstruck
If there’s a Survivor near you while carrying a Survivor, you cansee their aura and Expose them with Starstruck, giving you a free down.
Bloodwarden
The biggest counter for Bloodwarden was the Survivor’s ability to leave the doors at 99 percent. Now that they can’t do that with Haywire, Bloodwarden becomes quite deadly.
Remember Me
Apart from regressing the exit door switches, you can alsomake the Survivors take much longer to open themwith this perk.
Hex: No One Escapes Death
Finally, this is an essential perk in the endgame build that you’d generally use if you’re planning to use Haywire. It’ll let you instantly down survivors with a basic attackin the endgame.
